Default Uni Chip? ~ Edit? or NEW E Series Chip?

So this is the story, I have currently a Uni Chip, the question is do i replace it? and if so.... for a) the Edit? or b) the New E series chip which can be fitted to AU models?

Thanks for the interest.
(Keep in mind my car is xr6 with VCT ~ Manual)
Only considerable mods include.
Full exhast system.
3 inch Air Intake kit.

I plan to do cam/headwork when i can find a mob that knows their vct's.

Edit...

Have a look at CASPER's car, it will give you a good idea of what to do to yours being VCT.

Better off to wait until you get the head/cam sorted before you spend up on a tune as you will only need to retune it once you get them if you get the tune first. Where are you located?

Why would you put an E series chip in an AU?

Go the flash tune/edit. Depending on who does it, you can then get it retuned for minimal cost after other mods are done (talk to Chris at Bluepower).

Stating the obvious here, but isn't E-Series chip just for E-Series?

Casper has a VCT with the edit and has gotten good results from the guys at G&D in Cranbourne (site sponsor). I can also vouch for the quality of their work as i'm getting a fair amount of work done their on mine.

AFAIK the E-series EDIT isn't a flash ... it's EEPROM that has to be burned in ... so everytime you get it EDITed ... it has to be burnt into a new EEPROM.

Not the same as plugging in and uploading. In the long run for changing tune it will be cheaper and easier to use the AU EDIT.

The Eliminator chip works in the E-Series, and AU Falcons (it requires some pins bridged together apparantly).

It does exactly the same thing as the flash tuner.

Yes it is $200 cheaper than the flash tuner.

It is NOT VIN locked to your car. So you can use it on as many cars as you want...just need to have the calibration on it updated.

It is also available with a 4-way switch, so you can choose whichever tune you want at the flick of a switch rather than having to shut down the car, plug in the flash tuner box, and download the required tune...

Makes alot more sense to use the Elimator chip on the AU rather than the flash tuner IMO.

Back to the original question though....If you haven't made any significant changes to the car, and considering its a manual, I cant see that there would be a worthwhile improvement over the Unichip for the cost. It would be better, but not 1200-1400 (depending on cost of custom tune) dollars better.

Th eliminator chip appeals to me as the best way to go but without more serious mods you don't really need it.

The Unichip will probably give as good results power wise.

I can't convince myself I need to spend the money on one thats for sure.

Thanks guys for all the different opinions.. now im even more confused, but leaning towards the e-series chip.

i dare say, my best bet would be to keep the uni chip untill further mods are done.

so who knows of a good uni chip tuner? not many exist these days...(melbourne area)???

Im currently putting in an AU Capa edit. Its taken 3 weeks so far, mostly because capa cant send the right parts, but im sure when i get the car back it will perform better than it did on the Unichip - not to say Unichip was at all bad, just doesnt have as much functions as the edit. But so far the edit sounds like its quite a hard beast to tune.

Just had the Capa Flash Tuner installed. My car has no engine mods. There is definatley a difference. They already had a custom performance tune for my car so they used that one.

Basically changes are More Power, shorter shifts, slightly higher idle and alot better on take off.

Im wrapped

I just got the CAPA tuner on my AU as well. I hadn't had it tuned with anything else prior, but I was chuffed.
For a total of about 5 hours of tuning, my results are listed here, http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=76251

Obviously it's up to you, but you'll be able to get pro's and cons for all systems here.

Havent sold the chip, looking for $350 ono.

Get the car back with the edit done tomorrow, so should have a verdict. Its not a standard engine though, supercharged 6 with cam work and all the exhaust, headers, 373 diff etc

PM me anyone interested buying the Unichip.

OK Guys I have some results. 189rwkw.

Capa edit on a inline 6 Auto with a Powerdyne running 6psi. Not too bad. There is still some teething problems though which we cant seem to get around (yet). At 4000rpm to about 4500rpm the car for some reason dumps way too much fuel in, and bogs down. So if you floor it you get boost, it bogs and has a spit for about 3 secs and then you get a crap load of boost again. If you go half throttle and it changes at 4000rpm its perfect (but obviously im not at full boost).

Other than that its time now for those extra precautions, I need to add a tranny cooler, intercooler and water injection to the kit. After that I may think about the 9psi pulley. I wouldnt mind some ideas on how to get the boost a bit lower down in the rev range, I might even look at a stally.

water injection is pretty dicey, not a precaution but a major gamble

Why would they send it with the kit and recommend using it then? Its just a small spary of vapour into the intake pipe behind the airpod to keep the charger and aircool. Its no where near the throttle body. The only issue would be running out of water. Or the thing explodes and somehow puts buckets of water through a pinhead sized hole.

fair enough, shouldn't cause any drama's. I thought you were talking water injection in the t/b to drop combustion temp. I can't understand why people even consider it, it's almost garenteed trouble

I'm in a similar boat now.. i had my AU dynoed today and it has serious issues he said. Its running very lean and they didn't want to run it fully on the dyno incase something happened! I've been advised to get a piggyback chip but i'm sketchy because it classifies as a vehicle modification. Will the edit do the same job? I can scan the dyno sheet if that would help..
