Default Yellow Ferrari in flames at Lalor Park

Yellow Ferrari in flames at Lalor Park

ZENON KOSMIDER,
The Daily Telegraph

12 November, 2016

See Web link below for video of fire

A QUICK stop at an ATM has ended up costing one man a whole lot more than expected when his Ferrari burst into flames.

In a terrible start to a Saturday morning, the man is believed to have parked his Ferrari on Freeman St, near the Northcott Rd intersection in Lalor Park, to stop quickly at an ATM.

When he returned to his car, he noticed flames coming from the rear of the vehicle — which he unsuccessfully attempted to extinguish.

NSW Fire and Rescue attended the incident, about 9.30am and worked to extinguish the fire.

The incident is being treated as not suspicious by police, and the luxury car has been towed away from the scene.

They paid all that money, for a flash car that has burnt to the ground. I can't remember any Falcons or Territories doing that, unless someone set them
on fire of course...

still, it'd be heartbreaking to have it happen, especially if you loved the car.

it must have been a fairly hot fire. it looks like the aluminium has melted off the rear fender.

Surely he's insured and can get himself a replacement to ease the pain !
But really needs to think about what aftermarket rims can go with it...

Seeing as though it's been lowered and has those rims I doubt very much that it would be insured.

At least it's the right colour for a lemon.

The vehicle history would be good to read.

I wouldn't wish that outcome on anybody though.

That car was for sale very recently on carsales.

Twin turbo, heavily modified. Lots of $$$ put into it.

Was cheap as well.

Perhaps we will hear more about this.

That car was on an online auction prior to the car sales add.
Didn't sell at the auction for $100k.

Sorry, that was a nasty comment to make. You wouldn't wish this on your worst enemy. Although, if they were driving this car around without insurance, that's a pretty silly thing to do..

Only the Everest that did it on the road test fairly recently.

Ferrari of a certain type have a habit of overheating the rear brakes and setting fire to the bodywork.

This is a weird place for an arson attack to occur, driving down the road with the owner in the car.

This ferrari fire has nothing to do with Falcon's or Territories.
All makes of car catch on fire randomly all the time. It's unlikely you will see it happen, but a google search will find almost all makes and models of car on fire in the middle of a random road.

Yes I am A Ferrari fan. If this car is highly modified it would be interesting to see what caused the fire.

I'm sorry....but when I was 17 and started driving, my first car was a little 1953 Austin A30. It cost me $250 off a mate (registered), and even THAT I got insured for basic and cheap third party, fire, and theft.

How the hell can you buy a hundred grand car and not have any insurance on it??

Can't afford to insure them, can't afford to drive them.

Like big boats, easy enough to afford one, hard to be able to find the cash to keep up with the maintenance.

Well well, it's amazing what you find on Google! I've been a car enthusiast since boyhood (a good 30 years) and have never heard of inherent problems with the Australian built Fords catching on fire. (I don't remember any recalls relating to faults causing fire)

It's not to say I disagree with you that they have caught on fire. (you've provided evidence of one!) One can only surmise that a few here and there have had shoddy repairs done (or arson attack!), resulting in a four wheeled bonfire where no one's having much fun!

Modern Ferrari's (1995 onwards) i agree with you, but they are a case of form following function.

You must have been the only person that didn't hear of the F series testing that went wrong in the early '80's. The Engineer that use to sit next to me had one go up in flames right about where the Melbourne F1 circuit is, (Albert park), peak traffic and all...

The cached link posted earlier to the old auction page shows the engine bay - it looked like a quality twin turbo install, lots of shiny bits, but with the heat from the localised fire melting metal, my guess is the oil line to the turbo (it's over the exhaust) or a fuel line (which would be close to the exhaust)
Packaging is tough in those mid mounts...
Unlikely to be electrical with the heat melting aluminium in such a small area IMHO (Had a cortina burn electrically once, different outcome)

No one who gives a damn about a Ferrari wouldn't put aftermarket wheels on it. Never.

Secondly, turbocharged too? Screams drug dealer to me.
