sadly cars are always judged by km's. It really doesnt matter as long as the log book history and motorcheck comes out all clear. As said already, I would prefer to take on a dam clean, well looked after car with 150,000km's on the clock over a visibly second hand & well used vehicle with 60,000km's.

I filled up today at 67c per Litre. Cost me $37. I ended up getting 364km out of my previous tank. Not driving hard, just normal in city traffic. Not complaining too much about that.

The wagon turned over 240,000 last weekend. I am hesitant to risk saying this but still no real problems, except;

- She sometimes stalls when the LPG is very low and we accelerate from a dead stop a bit too hard.
- The top a/c switch only works when it feels like it so I tend to use the bottom one.
- A bunch of console lights don't work (but at least I have now found the radio removal tools so now I only have to find the motivation to pull the panel off.)
- The brakes pulse when they are applied at around 100kmph.

I have been wondering; is it time to get newer Falcon wagon (which will cost around $10k plus the old girl) or just keep going. I just dunno.

Just a few suggestions:
1. If lpg is very low its due to the gas not being enough to get to the pick up. Its a normal thing. Fill up with gas as soon as possible after.
2. If your stalling when accelerating it could be due to a similar situation where gas isnt in the pick area of the gas tank. Could depend on what make of tank you have. I think some newer ones MAY have some kind of windage tray now to avoid major lpg loss around the pick up in time of high movement.
3. Console lights shouldnt be majorly difficult to replace if you have the patience.
4. Brakes pulsing is usually due to slightly warped brake rotors. Machine your rotors and this pulsing should disappear. You need to speak to your mechanic to get this done as they have the machine to do it. Its not expensive either.

HTH

PS. Keep the old girl. There's nothing wrong with it. Just needs a bit of TLC and regular maintenance.

Thanks BO.

The discs have quite a track worn into them. I think I will just replace them.

All the best,

Fair enough mate. Probably not a bad idea with new rotors, pads and a fresh brake flush. Shouldn't be expensive depending on what your driving style is like.

Where is the "buggered if i know" option on the poll? I have an ex-taxi with matching numbers but the speedo was replaced with one of around 100,000 at the time... i bought it with 115,000 and its now 121,000... 6,000 in 4 months...

Mine has 632k's on it at present, and i know since i started looking after it at 90ks i haven't touched the head. so yeah, over half a mil on the one head at least, if not the whole 632k.

y'know, out of all the cabs ive looked after over the years (probably around 40 or 50) we only ever replaced one motor. that was cos an oil pump disintegrated and it was cheaper to replace the motor, and that was on an EL.

Daniel,

I'm really confused about this post. Can you clear it up for me please?

You bought an AU1 car for $5,000 that you could have got for $4,000?

OR

Do you mean you got $5,000 from a dealer for your AU1 trade in?

Yep she's really great to drive. Been wondering where she's been all this time since she was new. Someone probably stumbled upon her cleaning out their shed. Lol.

More info...The car is a 2000 model and has a 200kw motor, full tickford spoiler kit.
Only Mods iv`e done is K&N Filter and a Full Dual Two and half inch Cat Back exhaust system..Exhaust made quite a difference in power compared with the original exhaust system. The car seems quite low, so i believe the original owners had it done..I went into Javis Ford looking to buy a 2003 BA GT Falcon, the saleman said that they just traded the Blue XR8, and that the owners bought the car new from them.. They told me the history of the car and because ive always loved the front of the AU2/3`s XR8`s and with very low Kilo`s ,, I ended buying the car instead of a Ba GT... :-)
