Default AU2> Sedan

Hey guys,

Just looking for some advice.

Im after a AU2/3 sedan, around the 5-10k mark. Must have cruise control, air con, and would like electric windows aswell.

After seeing LG's car and remembering GlennBA's, thats what I want to achieve. But before that I need to find a suitable base.

Question is, when does the first major service come around? Im looking at some examples with <100,000 k's on them, but there price is a fair bit higher than the ones with say around 150,000.

Do I bother trying to find one with really low k's or do I get one around 150,000 and pay less with the major service already done? Assuming its around the 120,000 mark.

Cheers

Examples of what I am after below:

http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars...=0&distance=25

This one is nice, get rid of the lights and spoiler and it would be good.

Oh ill be looking at putting it on either a vapour or injected gas setup so the cheaper I can get it to start off the better.

Mines a series one, with 275 000k's. It has series 3 brakes, and is lowered, wheels, and tint, and the interior is quite nice. You can have it for $5500. It actually runs smoother than my AU3 with 104 000k's :(
The cruise button is loose, front bar needs a respray, and there are a couple of little dings on it. The roof lining is also sagging.
Thats about all thats wrong with it, it has a brand new (2k old) exhaust, standard, and has no engine mods anymore. I know you said series one, but Ive rectified the series one mistakes.

Obviously no plates. And Id take $5200 without wheels.

Hi Polyal,
Personally i'd recommend getting an AUIII Futura e-gas. I reckon they were the best (price vs functionality) AU ever made.

Well according to the hand book the services went at evey 15000 k
Scheduled should go A.A.B.A.A.B. with the only differance being a air filter on the B if required .Extras are listed as Plugs @ 100000ks Brake fluid every 2 years, Coolant every 3 years, fuel filter every 3years/90000 ks.plugs @ 150000ks
on a side note a mate has 2 E_Gas AUs a sed. and S wag best value by far

Brake fluid every 2 years?? lordy.. i had no idea... i've never had brake fuid done in any of my cars... then again.... i've only really ever had them on the road for about 2 years... lmao!

BTW... the cooling system should be done once a year... 3 years and you'll be in alot of trouble...

As has been mentioned, I don't think the major service is anything all that major!

While I used to buy on km's first then condition, as I'm getting more experienced with cars, I'm learning to look at the condition first and then km's!

My daily up until last week had 300k on the clock and still drove better than any lower km example I've owned previously.

So in answer to your question, I'd buy the cheaper/higher mileage example, provided it's in just as good/better condition.

Thanks for the info guys. And also thanks for the offers but I am really looking for a stocker that I can mod myself. Nothing against your rides they are nice, but I want to make something my own.

I was under the impression that there was atleast one major service, if not then thats gold because I can look at ones with 150k now with a little more confidence.

My old EL Ghia had 220k and ran like a dream, so I know it varies alot.

This AU III SR caught my eye as I browsed through ebay. It might suit your requirements and could be worth an inspection. Nope It's not mine, but nearly as good as though. :eclipsee_
