Default Cars for sale.

Gday all.

Just thought I'd add a sugggestion regarding the cars for sale forum.

Is it possible, that when a person starts a new thread to sell a car, that they have to fill out some sort of standard form, rather than writing what they want in the space provided.
Things like model, year, location, price, colour, extras etc?

Cheers

Gubas

Yeah, that'd be a good idea. I see people selling their car on this site without giving a price or the location :s

It's been on the cards for a long time, the problem is that to bring it in it's a pretty big sofwtare upgrade from what i understand.

It will happen, just unsure when.

I think for the time being a sticky could be made with a list of items that should be included with the post. A user can then copy that text paste it into their post and then fill in the blanks.

i don't understand how a form b4 starting a thread can cause a major software upgrade?

Maybe some more moderators should cover the FS section and go all nazi-style on non-conforming posters?

And maybe a hugeass banner should be placed above the FS section regarding the posting template/guidelines? Kind of like the "technical info" banner in other sub-forums...

Great in theory. In reality alot of people dont read those kind of stickys b4 posting if they did problem would be solvered. Standard form that pops up for seller to fill out before it lists car for sale has my support.

Because the posting body in the theme is the same for everytime you post. You have to introduce another method of posting with this form, then implement it into the forums design, structure etc. Its not easy.

How bout a template, make it a sticky and people can copy and paste? Just have headings like Make, Model, Engine, Trans, etc..
Just a thought..

We had that running for awhile, but only 30% of people used it.

A template for sale items will be introduced, another item that is at the top of the list for future upgrades for the site.

Let me just add a few things here.

Being a mod of the FS forums I am so very sick of having to fix people's posts because they simply do not read. At the very top of every forum, be it cars for sale, spare parts, parts wanted etc, there is a thread that is sticky (never moves) and contains all the guidelines which are designed to stop these problems from happening.

If people took the extra 30 seconds to read that, you guys wouldnt be making this thread and suggesting all these things.

If I/we/the other mods went "nazi style" as it has been put, imagine the uproar and people whinging. I'm more than happy to just keep deleting threads that don't have all the required information, but they'll just keep coming back and I'll get even more PM's from users whinging because their thread is gone.

If you post in those forums, take the time to read the rules, do it properly, and there won't be a problem. It's that simple.

I sure don't want your job b2tf!

Fair enough, I guess my 1st suggestion was rather silly. But maybe an annoying flashing (eyecatching) banner which links to your sticky would reduce the number of non-compliant FS threads?

somebody's gotta do it........ :

Your suggestion wasnt silly and it's good to see users wanting to help out, just the biggest problem is getting the posts correct in the first place - not having more people to fix them afterwards.

This may be ambitious, but could you set up the code in the for sale section such that it automatically puts a template into the body of text when a new thread is started?

Yes

A sensational effort from Plext, thank you very much, this will be a very useful asset to the Sales area.

Not to also mention Russellw, for implementing it and fixed the bugs that popped up.

Cheers, brilliant effort

can i make 3 suggestions about the template.
1st: CONTACT DETAILS.
2nd: MODIFICATIONS (if any)
3rd: CONDITION of vehicle. maybe a brief on whats wrong with it as well.
adding these 3 sections will eliminate many questions and allow the sale to commence quicker and easier for all concerned.

But then there would be no checking of posts for b2tf to do.

We cannot support the having of b2tf lounging about and sipping beer, it's just not on.

hey just one thing that I have noticed with the new form, IMO the seller must say how many k's its done.

Dont know about you, but I would like to know that up front, wouldn't even bother looking at some cars if the k's are too high.
