Default Extractors on AU

Hey has anyone here put extractors on thier AU 6 with 2 1/2 exhaust, just wondering if its worth me putting money into buying a set. Did you notice any considerable power gains, petrol usage, torque increase etc???? And what brands have yas used....

running pacey 4499's on my OHC. tis still probably the most worth while engine mod done to date. apparently 4480 (comps) are better for VCT's... or something...

Extractords? What are they? lol

Yep, have had Paccie 4499s on both my old XR6 VCT (lost power, but gained torque), and now also on the standard I6 wagon. Very worthwhile to get the engine breathing right through the rev range.

What sort of KW gain do you get out of a set of Extractors???
(or KW loss in your case JC)
I have been thinking about them lately to, wouldn't mind getting a set put on.

Cheers

I'm in the same boat, been playing with the idea of getting some extractors put on. I can get Pacemaker 4499's supplied and fitted for $450, which seems quite reasonable. I've had a few places tell me it's not worth getting the 4480 Comps unless I plan to do more engine mods, which I don't. I've got a 2.5" exhaust and a Tickford intake, and I don't plan on doing anything more than that to the engine, in the way of cams or edits or anything like that. I wouldn't mind a bit more low down grunt, but I'm not trying to build a racecar here! I'll be interested to hear more thoughts from those who've gone down the extractors road...

Best money spent on the I6 in my opinion is to install headers and a mandrel bent 2.5inch exhaust.

Lost 1rwkw peak on the VCT, but gained around 25NM Torque at peak. Power and Torque curves were a lot meatier than standard exhaust though, so overall loss was not felt as it made more power at different points in the rev range (especially down low, IIRC).

im considering pacies and 2 1/2 system on my wagon, but local exhaust guy says the drone is terible, the ford cat is good enough (after asking for a hi flow cat) and that even putting resonators in, the drone will still be annoying? has anyone had this prob or is it just bs and the guy doesnt want to do it?

That was with the old design pacemakers though JC.
I've had both the JMM Race headers and the new design Pacemaker comps on my car.. the Pacemakers are my preferred choice as they showed a greater overall improvement (on my car at least).

In my opinion, get a redback 2 1/2" exhaust with 2 mufflers. Mines not droney at all. and sounds great when i get up it.

Would be a good idea to get a new cat as well. no point fitting a decent exhaust and keeping the std cat

Hey what would a full 3inch system be worth? I asked for a price on s/s extractors to tip with high flow cat, muffler and resinator. was told around $1800 is this a resonable price?

Yeah s/s is more expensive, s/s pacie comps are about $600, High flow cat $400-$500, and the rest of the 3 inch exhaust maybe another $500-$600 in s/s so yeah you can't complain to much. If you wanted normal steel you could save a lot of cash.

Was speaking to rob herrod and a few other exhaust blokes and they reckon that our 6 cylinders will lose power with a three inch exhaust and that it won't help to replace the cat unless its stuffed. So you can spend $300 on a 2.5inch mild steel exhaust, and I just bought pacie comps for $430 today and getting them installed for $110 tomorrow so in mild steel it can cost as little as $740 installed. Then you can save the extra $1000 bucks for a new billet cam $390, valve springs $200 and vernier gear $180 with a bit left over for installation.
