Default AFF Testing Program

Here's your chance to have some input into the next AFF test day.

Following on from last years tyre test and the BA brake test conducted last month we are considering what we should look at next. A few suggestions have been thrown around in a couple of threads but we have to try and make the best use of our limited resources to meet the needs of as wide an audience as possible.

Here are the 3 proposals on the table at present:

1. After market brake test

Probably based around the AU we would compare new stock against DBA, RDA, Ford Premium and Brembo. Not overly time consuming but difficult in finding suitable donor vehicles with each system and ensuring that weight and tyre variables are dialled out of the equation with controls.

2. BA Lightweight Mods

Given the preponderance of exhaust and CAI options available it would be nice to see the various contenders put their upgrades on the line in a controlled test. For consistency a single test mule would have to be used and a hard ECU reset performed after each installation with both dyno and strip tests to establish what really works. A reasonably costly test (given the fititng and cool down times required) but if it was limited to 3 or 4 widely available (or popular) combinations it would be workable.

3. BA Chips / Edits

A logisitical nightmare and one that would require estensive support from the suppliers of the various options to make workable. The methodology is horribly complex to ensure a level playing field but it is doable with sufficient cooperation and patience.

Anyway, have your say in the thread. Other tests can be suggested with the rider that they: (1) have appeal to a wide audience (2) be repeatable with collatable data (3) can be performed with the test equipment we have available and finally (4) not send us to the poor house.

After a week or so we'll turn this into a poll.

Cheers
Russ
