Default 91 nissan maxima

I'm looking at swapping my Triton for a 1991 Nissan Maxima Ti, has anyone had any experience with these? are they decent cars? fuel efficient?

Haven't had much to do with them but I know parts for any Maxima are very expensive.
A power window reg costs $900!!!

jees i hope nothing goes wrong with it, the guy who previously owned it, his dad worked as a service manager at a nissan dealer, so i guess he would have got cheap parts..

You will find most parts are 2 to 3 times dearer than your average Falcon, Camry, Commodore, etc.
Also, Nissan carries very few parts for the older Maxima's. Most are ex-Japan with a 2 to 4 week delivery time.

the thing is you won't need to buy the new expensive parts because they won't break down in the first place.

we have a 1998 model and honestly it is a terrific car. strong engine, great interior, very very smooth. honestly just a great car.

My dad drives it every day for the past year, cost him about 8 grand for the 30GV model (full luxo spec), never a problem. It is also fairly quick. No manual however.

I had a 91 Maxima about 6 years ago, and it was a great car to drive and very lush inside, that is until both rear electric windows cables died, very expensive so I just jammed them in the up position as the parts as previously said where why over the top in price. (I always had the air on anyway) Of cause then the air compressor seized which was unobtainable. And not long after that the auto lost the plot, 2600 dollars later for the auto (and that was a cheep job no warranty).

So I would say don't do it!

if your going to get a Maxima, get an A32.
very nice car to drive with power to boot.
dont swap your triton for a 91 model.
they werent the best looking Maxima and they are getting a bit long in the tooth so things WILL break and they WILL cost you a packet to fix.
good luck if you ever wanted to sell it too, they are very hard to sell.

well i was thinking of an AU 3 Forte, but this one came up, swaps no cash needed. has full leather interior, pioneer stereo system, 17" wheels, looks really decent, but with the cost of repairing them and the fact its done 200,000kms i don't think i'll bother.

with 200000 kms on it, you cant gaurantee the lifespan of it either...
if it was owned by a service manager, it was probably serviced by an apprentice who didnt give a rats...
apart fro repair costs they are a pretty decent car, if you can like said before, go for an a32 if you have your heart set on a maxima, see if you can find the str, the one ith the bodykit and rims etc...
be waryof oil leaks though, like the sump and cam seals etc...

theyre quite a brilliant car until you have to repair it... thats basically it, like an audi or something, great to drive but thats about it...

Yeah the early maxima's were great cars when they worked, the repairs were a bit on the expensive side even when new.

The VG30 engine is quite a nice little unit but it does need to be well serviced, as they suffer badly with missed oil changes and such. Whereas with a ford six, you can give it hell for ages, then treat it to a decent service, and it'll act as if it was always looked after, the Nissan V6 will always have scars from periods of mal-service, even after a super service.

why do you want to get rid of the triton anyway?

it's always handy to have a ute. unless you live in a unit in the middle of the city.

its a tradies ute, ride is bumpy as hell considering its the 1 tonner and i never have anything in the back, can't mod it because is commercial. so yeah plus i wanna join the Ford family :
