Yep - you will need to run the AU electrics, but everything else is pretty much the same. Just note that the AU auto has slightly different valves/solenoids etc, so you may find the older boxes not as smooth, but they will work as well as they did in the cars they came from. I have an NC (EB/D) transmission ready for mine when it goes.

As JC said! I've been told you just need to swap the AU electrics (plugs etc) and run the AU bellhousing.

Yeah? Where from. At that price, I'll throw one in the EL instead of the NC one I have waiting.

$450 for a re-built? , I might be interested too. Could sell my current box and lose maybe $500 in the process. :p

Can you put the Forte/Futura transmission into an XR without losing the adaptashift? Or is that feature "on" the transmision itself, not ECU controlled?

The adaptive shift strategy is ECU controlled, but you may find one of the solenoids/valves is different between the XR and non-XR boxes - though I don't think so.
