Default Indicator not flashing properly

My latest problem has developed, and its one that's made me almost too embarrassed to use my indicator!!!

Basically, it only flashes sometimes. Other times it stays on...like, the little green arrow on my dash will stay on, and the indicator lights outside will also stay on instead of flashing. It does it in both directions, however I think its more prone to stick when indicating left.

I'm hoping its just a sticky relay which I can change over relatively quickly, but any other advice would be greatly appreciated in case I go do the change and it doesn't fix the problem.

Otherwise I guess I'll just have to get used to driving with one hand on the stalk turning it off and on manually to make it flash LOL.

Thanks heaps in advance!

Its your blinker relay, small box inside the drivers side fuse panel where your right knee sits. You can flick it a few times, see if that fixes it, or just buy a new one or second hand one from Ford or a Wrecker.

What The Monty said. It's your flasher relay, in the fuse box. Pull it out, bash it around big time, stick it back in. If it don't work right again, get a new one from the wreckers. Easy, cheap fix. Mine is actually a BF flasher unit and its a little bit quicker than an AU one, so its as fast as most cars on the road.

I had the exact same problem with my wagon. JC put me onto the problem straight away.

SuperCheap Auto sell them for $30-40. I wouldn't bother with the wreckers myself, but that's up to you of course. The original Ford items are a little more compact, and tick a bit louder. As was said above, the aftermarket unit I installed blinks quicker.

Cheers,

GK

Fantastic, thanks heaps guys. Will go give it a shot.

Had a mate going "oh its probably some wiring or electrical problem in your dash" which wasn't inspiring me with too much confidence!

Dodgy the way prices rise isn't it?

Truth be told, I didn't even bother to ring Ford for a price. Perhaps I should have given them the benefit of the doubt, as they're usually much dearer on such things.

Mmmm, I think I'll investigate this a bit further. I still have the receipt.
