Looks like it beat the Focus RS too. Wow, seriously fast.

Thanks for this- so nice to see Honda getting back to its roots. High revving good handling small machine with manual box.

Focus RS has never recorded an official Nurburgring lap time with a pro driver.

A car magazine driver did a low 8 lap.

Although I'm pretty sure that the Type R would be faster than the MK3 RS around the ring in dry conditions.

It's amazing how fast some of the bumdraggers are around the ring, plenty of modded Megane's, Leon Cupra's, Civics and Golf's that can hang with AMG's, BMW M cars, Porsches etc...
It shows just how important weight or lack thereof is on a race track.

Better believe it. An F6 is quicker than that Honda to 60 mph, but on a track it would eat that Honda's dust.

Tell you what Bossxr8, I love high powered rear drive v8s with mongrel and a manual.

But, there is a figure 8 double lane roadway, and driving my manual Honda Euro front drive 2.4 vtec through that- no other traffic, taking a certain line in second, snicking into 3rd, and hitting the limiter both gears - was an orgasmic experience- that is the sound of the vtec from 6,750 to over 7,300 hitting the limiter and bouncing on it- getting a conservative thing to get down and dirty. The car sat flat and I 4 wheel drift slided through it.

In comparison, the FGX XR8 is a bit of a boat, and is still shy of what that family hack euro did by some 18 kph through the exit corner.

Once on the exit- yeah- the FGX XR8 missiles away into licence shredding territory.

But the cars like a civic is a different rush, on corners, 4 wheel sliding, lots of steering wheel work steering the car flat in a 4 wheel drift- different rush- in some ways a total physical knackering of a driver which is fun.

I would love to have a car like the latest Honda in a garage with the FGX XR8-both great cars, for different applications....

Plenty of people care (including the 5 people above you), except spiteful people like yourself...so not sure if ignorant or just sour.

Obviously you care enough about the subject to comment on it

Sort of related to the topic, has anyone seen Jordan Cox fling his early-90's Civic around Mt Panorama?

My point is if you want to go fast on the Nurburgring you sure as hell ain't going to pick a FWD car. And nobody is going to argue with that.

Why not? What difference does it make as long as the car is going forward?

7:48 isn't hanging around and is faster than many RWD cars.

haha, you are ignorant at times...perhaps you should just leave topics like alone given your narrow mindedness.

There is plenty of people out there flinging FWD's around the ring, stuff like Intergras, Megane's, 205 GTI's, Golfs and Fords own ST offerings. And they are driving fast and hard. After all, the performance FWD market is hotley contested, because people are buing them and using them.

My fwd daily absolutely destroys both my cars in my sig in day to day driving and handling. There's one particular bend I have to brake in the FG and slow down to 40 to take. In my FWD daily I dropped it into 3rd and stay flat at 80 (speed limit) and takes it without squealing. Just saying. They're not that bad.

So I found the MK3 RS time of 8:06- Done by Autosport Magazine Driver, Christian Gebhardt.

https://www.motor1.com/news/131043/f...urgring-video/

Take it with a grain of salt as this is the quote from Autosport in the accompanying article:

German publication Auto Sport has conducted its own Ring tests for years, and while the numbers are comparable to other ones run by AS, they can’t necessarily be put up against figures issued by carmakers themselves. Sport Auto’s lap time with the Civic Type R, for instance, was 8:15, while the BMW M2 managed 8:01. Yet Honda and BMW claim 7:50 and 7:58 ‘Ring times for their cars, respectively.

Note that they are referring to the previous type R that never came to Australia.

I love FWD hot hatches, but at the same time I do see where he is coming from. That time puts it in 80th place on the top 100 lap times at the ring, but all the other cars in front are either 4WD or RWD. There is a reason why F1 cars don't use FWD, same as most other motor sports (V8 Supercars, Drag racing, 24h Lemans, ect)

FWD have their limit.

F1 cars are mid engined...why would you have a FWD mid engined car? makes no sense. Not saying that if they had their engine in the front they would have FWD either. But it is completely beside the point and the comment made.

To say Fastest FWD car is like saying hottest chick without a head. No one really cares. is just pure ignorance.

Because of the front weight bias, torque steer and the issues having one end power the car and steer it at the same time.

So if I have a different opinion I shouldn't comment. Now who's the ignorant one

FWD cars have their place, the Renaultsports and ST's are brilliant. But if manufacturers want to make a car to run seriously quick times at the nurburgring they sure as hell ain't doing it in a bum dragger.

And don't tell me the guys using those cars at the Nurburgring would be using them if they could afford a good rwd or awd car like a 911, GT-R etc for example.

Cars as big as Falcons ain't exactly the best examples of handling. Especially stock. Hardly relevant. Try that same corner in a proper RWD sports car and see what the result is.
