Having spent the day driving a VF SSV redline to and from Sandown, that series II sounds fantastic!

This is a barnstorming car. SS with LS3
Big hairy chested 6.2 litre V8. Brilliant looking car. Feature packed. The new fords are still very strong on performance, but lack features and to be honest dont look the best. I think the new supercharged clubsport and SS will really eat unto xr8 sales.. Ill either buy a brand new SS LS3 or an XR8 when ford struggle to offload them and discount to around $50k... my prediction is that WILL happen. |

Looks like Calais V and Caprice V would be a good tow rig with the 6.2 V8 and now having LSD and $350 Brembo brake upgrade.

Is the $350 Brembo option fronts only or rears too? Either way it is still a good deal.

Does anyone know if the bonnet vents are functional?
No brainer on the Brembo option for $350.00 The Bi mode exhaust will definately make the V8 models sound good. apart from the mechanical changes, from the pictures I still prefer the look of the series 1.

Sales show that the buying public do not really care as the above has been the case for years.

Adding half a second to their claim would make it slower than the outgoing 260kw car. But yes everyone knows what the XR8 is good at. If I had a dollar for every time the SSVR vs XR8 argument was reduced to an acceleration split, I'd have enough dollars to buy them both.

I love the Caprice V and the HSV Grange, they are the two cars from Holden I'd own.
Of course the V8s. Why would anyone buy their boat anchor torqueless crap V6 for? |

I bought an ex-GM Calais Sportwagon 6.0lt back in March, and gotta say feeling a bit underdone now reading about the series 2.
Day to day mine feels plenty quick enough, but on those occasions when I stretch it out a little, remembering there are SIX litres under my foot, I cant help but wonder which era this engine is actually from. And you could argue the 6.2 is even less efficient than the 6.0, but at the end of the day the speed vs fuel economy equation is pretty damn good with these, plus the physical size of the engine and light weight = not much to complain about. Smart move by Holden to concentrate on the performance models as well, that's the only area Commodores and Falcons are even remotely relevant these days. 4 cylinder Falcon anyone? Thought not... |

Well $40,000 for a ss ute,yes its not supercharged but hey where is fords $40,000 V8 Ute ?????.If I was looking for a sedan I would be on one of those SSV in a shot, yep that's coming from a 2014 FPV Pursuit ute owner.
Its already really noticeable how many new commodores are on the streets.Pretty sure ford missed the boat, just cant get into the look of the XR8.

And Ford cant get bonnet vents on the Mustang...
Anyway, I hate to say it but will done GMH. At the end of the day both companies will be gone but one has genuinely tried harder than the other in the last decade. I still wouldnt be caught dead in one but I commend the effort.

I popped into Sinclair Ford over the weekend; FG-X sales are in the doldrums. Ford aren't pushing it and although it's smart from a stock point of view (unsold cars sitting in yards), it's sad to see it go out this way.
Have to admire Holden for making more of an effort and capitalising on Ford's lack of effort.

Same could apply if I was given a dollar for every time it was reduced to a gadget split... The cars are what they are, XR8 is still pretty epic for the money, this SS looks to be a pretty decent effort too.

Doesn't mean they are in any way no good - they just represent a currently unloved market segment. |

Yes... Not just on TV, billboards etc. TV advertising is very costly and in a lot of cases a waste of money which could be better spent elsewhere.

Yes and the last falcon is the best kept secret in Australia because it's too "expensive " to advertise . What are they banking on word of mouth ?

It’s just the entry level output of the LS3 that has so much more to offer that disappoints me and there is no harm to anyone else in me feeling that way. Personally I’ll be adding to it anyway so the factory tune won’t matter but it would have been nice to see 320kw or so in the brochures just so it doesn’t look so far behind the last XR8 on offer. As it is I’ve been forced to wait and see what Holden would come up with and now I'll go the Commodore route. Plus a 5 second 0-100 in so called performance car is a bit ho-hum these days. I've owned many factory slow Commodores. |
