Default Quickest Ecotec?

Ok most people will probably think this is a pointless thread but I thought I'd ask.

The other day one of the apprentices told me about one of his friends that had the quickest NA ecotec engined Commodore that ran in the 11s. He was very sure of himself too and said NOS was definitely not used. As you'd expect I laughed for around 30 minutes.

Anyway does anyone know what the ecotec NA record is for a Commodore? 13.3 for a 4.0l Falcon so I thougt it would be close to that.

It's a bit late for April fools.

Although it may have done an 11 vertically if dropped out of an aeroplane.

Yeah i'd reckon high 13's would be the go. A clean, well tuned stock VS will do it pretty much square on 16, so there's a small indicator.

There was a turbo VN with a built motor that pulled 11s, fastest to date.
Out of the box it's either VS Series II or VY.
VS has the weight advantage but VTII when the refresh of the motor was done got better headers, cats, throttle bodies and manifolds...

Still a gutless chauff cutter that won't muster 13s with bolt ons...

THE BUFFALO THEORY

In one episode of 'Cheers', Cliff is seated at the bar describing the 'Buffalo Theory' to his buddy Norm. I don't think I've ever heard the concept explained any better than this:

"Well you see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive drinking of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that is why you always feel smarter after a few beers."

I've read in the states that these cars have got good times with the use of turbo charging, but so has the I6.

N/A Ecotec doing 11's?? I would seriously need to see proof of this as its BS.

Im talking N/A as well, didnt think of boosted ones, lol.
If I remember, on the commodore forums, they have threads about trying to crack into the 14's, like we try and crack the 13's.
Generally an exhaust plus intake VN/VP will make 95rwkw, same with a VY is around 120kw.
Our E series with exhaust and intake make 130, AU's are the same, B'series will make 150.

I think the Monty is spot on the money. My brother has a VT (auto, six, na, wagon)that he's starting to mod (done CAI and exhaust, just about to do extractors and roller rockers) and he reckons with all of that he'd be seeing ~105-110rwkw and a square 16, which i reckon is about right.

Fixed that for you. Also, anyone know of the "performance" potential of the Alloytec? Probably still not a patch on the I6 but I'm curious.

I think they can cut low 13's N/A when done right (high stall TH700 etc) however 11's NA would require it to be dropped in a FHolden chassis or similar (or mabey an HB torry would do it).

Performance potential for the alloytec would be alright. It'd probably be doing ~125rwkw in stock form. In a VZ its a pathetic heap of crap with light years of throttle lag, but in a VE it's pretty responsive. Not too bad power wise, but still a torqueless wonder however.

The VE's 0-100 is in the low 9 second mark. And thats before the power cut for fuel economy that came into effect a few months ago.

I know they do have the 4.2 stroker kits available so cubes would be better than Ford. Still I reckon a 13 would be about it.

There are a couple here in the 11's, however they are the supercharged model with 21psi boost kits.

What drugs is this apprentice of yours on? an N/A Ecotec commodore, faster than most heavily modded V8s and Turbo I6s, yeah right, what next, a Daihatsu steamrolling an F1 car?

NA Ecotec maybe could do 11's if it was bolted into a go cart, what do you think?

Mate I was just thinking that, but it would have to be a long kart with a front mounted engine and RWD or it would just flip off the launch, and then it probably be too heavy.

I think an ecotec in a VY-VZ could do 11s over the 1/4, but it would be like an axe with a new handle and new head. There would be no Holden (Buick)parts left in it at all, and it would cost a serious amount of dosh.

I suspect the apprentice may have been talking about 11s over the 1/8 or 60 foot
