Default Reccomend me a battery.......

Hey guys, as luck would have it the battery is about to die on the trusty old EL. Any expert advice as to what one to buy and more importantly is there anywhere they are on special at the moment?

I always just stick with Century Batteries. I am sure they have 2 year warranty and will outlast that warranty. Stay away from the cheap and nasty no name brands. Batteries generally don't come on special. I think around $142 is the price for a Century to suit your car. (at least it is in WA).

Personally, I would buy one of those batteries the RACV/NRMA/RACQ Sell... Had the one in the EF for over 4 years, and its still fine... It's also an enclosed battery with no emmisions

You will pay through the nose for an RACQ/RACV/NRMA battery. I was quoted nearly 200 bucks...

Best bet, head down to battery world with your old battery in hand - they'll know what's required, and you should get a discount off your new battery because you're trading it in on a new one. Not sure what size you'd need...I only have a 4 cylinder, so mine cost a neat 100

Me too. The convenience of having someone else play in your engine bay, and taking the old battery away is worth the membership and cost. I've been using them for years, and can't complain. The old NRMA battery in the Falcon was from 2006 when it was replaced last year.

Good point on Battery World! Especially if you still have the original radio and not its code? Although you can get it from Ford.

+1 for Bond batteries.

The ex had one in her car. The battery sat unused for 2 years (while in her car, thats a long story and I won't bother you with the details...) and was dead as night when I finally pulled it from her car. Gave the battery a charge overnight, chucked her in the BF (to see if she still would work) and she started straight away!

The battery was a maintenance free battery, and had the indicator light at the top which told you the health of the battery. It was black to start with, but after a couple of hundred kays, and a month of solid driving, the battery indicator turned green again.

When the battery left me (back into the ex's car) it was around 5 years old, and still had plenty of life in her yet.

Best of all, it was a 600 CCA battery, which would crank the BF multiple times without going flat...

I've also used Century and Exide (currently in the BF, and is the orignal factory battery) and both have lasted a long long time.

Hope that helps!

I see your from Geelong. Oxford motor spares in Grovedale would be one of the cheapest places if not the cheapest to get one from. I have one in the NC and its been a bit over 2 years and still going strong.

X2 for Exide.
I've been through their plant and seen the batteries being made.

Also, I wouldn't suggest a maintenance free battery as I've been told by multiple people in the automotive industy that the sealed units are designed to only last slightly longer than their warranty before carking it.

I really don't find it that hard to maintain a bloody battery lol.

If you've got the money, can't go past an Optima or Odyssey.

If money is not the issue, as data mine said - the optima and odysey are the best.
If you don't want to spend quite that much, then the rest all seem pretty much the same

Geez, I went from no replies to being flooded, ha ha. I was looking at spending $160 which I assumed would score me a supercharge gold. But it seems that everyone has different tastes and they all seem to be happy with the battery they purchased?

This.
When the battery craps out in my 'new' FG, I'm going down this route.

At that sort of budget, they're all pretty much the same.

Spend more and you get features, like extra CCA (making the car easier to start cold), extra RC (larger charge, longer running), deep discharge capability (i.e. you won't kill it running it flat).

My Optima, cranks over the GT, first thing on a cold morn, as good as most cars do when still warm. Can let me listen to the stereo for ages (usually more than I need/want) before not being able to start the car, and has been left to run flat many times (e.g. if I'm overseas for weeks/months), but keeps bouncing back with no ill effects. And if it's like my previous optima, will last 6-7 years. But it is a $450 battery.

I assume prices are much better now due to the AUS$

The red top isn't a deep discharge unit, so go the yellow.

Exactly, for the sake of 12 bucks, you get the deep cycle AND 750CCA.
