Default Tesla Motors

If this is for real and coming to Aust, I'll be buying for sure even with dodgy American build quality (can't be worse than Australian)

looks good. $98,000 for the base model though. ouch.

on second thoughts and after looking at more pictures, it really looks like a sports car, so i guess the price tag is fair.

Have a look at the Pininfarina Ethos 1 & 2 concept cars (green & blue?) from about 10 years ago (the Ethos 3 was a 4 seater).

then you clearly havent been inside a base model american vehicle, they are absolute dog poo. for build quality australia is far ahead of the americans, just about every country apart from china has better build quality than the yanks.

Whilst any move away from oil dependence is a good one... the generation of electricity has its own drawbacks that will prove to be a big stumbling block here in australia.

How quick will it lap Morgan Park?
Now wait a minute, it has a range of 322km, so it might just make it to and from the Gold Coast. That means nothing left for MP.
Have to stick with the F6.

Self regenerating technology is getting better all the time, that coupled with solar cells which are also getting smaller and more efficient will see these cars purchase costs seem like nothing when you compare how much you save on fuel.

I'll be interested to see how many they sell. Hopefully this is the first step in many different and improving designs of these type of cars from the various manufacturers.

At this stage of technology it's ok for an urban driver. Take it on an interstate trip and it'd be useless.

I dont think it will set the world on fire like the model T, but like 4.9 EF Futura it is a step in the right direction.

With a bit more development and time they surely will take off.

The problem with this 'green' car is that if you were to recharge it using mains electricity here, it would essentially be a coal powered car. It just passes the onus of emissions control up-stream. Power generation is still the biggest contributor to emissions, AFAIK cars make up only around 15%

yeah and not only that, coal generation uses about a third of our drinking water total consumption according to an article in the age a couple of weeks ago, but still would be nice to go for a whirrr around the track in this one.

How do they make it make a noise??

Would it not be dangerous, a completely silent vehicle travelling down an empty main street early in the morning when potrntial drunk pedestrians can't hear it?

It will still make tyre noise, and i dont think the electric motors are silent either. Electric trains sure aren't silent. You normally cant hear cars like corolla's anyway

There's some interesting answers on the FAQ at their site on the link above. I reckon it's a pretty good first step towards a practical electric car (as practical as a Lotus elise can be ).
And you could point and laugh Prius owners as you go around them.
Regards,
Tote
