Default Man charged over vehicle re-birthing — Property Crime Squad

21 June 2007

Property Crime Squad detectives investigating organised motor vehicle re-birthing in Sydney’s south-west have today charged a man with multiple offences.

The 24-year-old man was arrested at Bankstown Police Station about 9.30am today before being questioned by Property Crime Squad detectives.

The Greenacre man was subsequently charged with four counts of receiving stolen motor vehicles and one count each of pervert the course of justice and knowingly facilitate vehicle re-birthing activities.

He was refused bail and appeared in Bankstown Local Court this afternoon, where he was granted strict conditional bail. He is due to appear in Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 29 August.

The charges relate to the alleged theft and re-birthing of three high-performance vehicles, as well as a van, earlier this year.

Today’s arrest followed a three-month investigation by Property Crime Squad detectives.

Inquiries are continuing and anyone with information about organised vehicle theft and re-birthing is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

LOL at Greenacre man, so typical of the people who live there. : out: :ticking: :ticking: :ticking: :

If I catch somebody messing with my car I will make them famous. They will appear in The Guiness Book of Records for the most amount of plastic surgery required to reconstruct a person's face. I have no respect for these people.

They also busted some people 2 years ago from Bankstown who were stealing cars and putting them in shipping containers for the middle east; all done through an auto wreckers I believe. They had a task force that found hundreds of cars rebirthed, stolen and dismantled etc. all in the bankstown area. If I remember correctly one guy involved was 72 years old.

A problem occurs when you buy a rebirth from the auctions as in Victoria its just about impossible to try and get the car rego'd. Have a VL calais in the shed that cannot be rego's because it was a rebirth.
Easier to buy a half decent body and put the running gear in it.
So I gather most of those cars will end up in the dismanterlers.
