Need a little advice guys, - i posted this in the ls1 forum and would also like your opinion
Heres the situation: I am a mobile personal trainer and have a requirement for a largish car for my stuff (Weights etc). I own a 2000 VX SS (lets pretend this is a BA xr8 lol) which has become my weekender. We also own a 2001 3 door astra which is the misses. NOW: I bought a 91 model toyota surf off my old man for 8k, which serves me well for business purposes. The old man wants 8k for it, and he gave us the car in advance. We are going to sell the astra to give him the $$. Now heres my conundrem. Should i sell the SS instead? It only gets weekend use by me and my misses would be the only driver of it to work - which is about a 15km round trip every day in a safe place. However if she lands this new job she will be taking the bus to the city and leaving the SS at a public transport carpark Now my options: 1) just sell the Astra as originally planned, keep the SS and just let natural depreciation take its course. I owe 8k on the SS still. 2) Sell the SS, keep the astra for the misses, pay off the debt owed on it, pay off the old man for his surf AND get a bike. I have always wanted a bike but to be truthful, am a little nervous as to the whole 'no metal surrounding me' thing and the 'death may be inimint' thing. However i was thinking i would like either a CBR250RR or a GPX250 or ZZR250: All learner bikes. The purpose of the bike is to simply have a fun toy for the weekend. It wouldnt be a toy in the sense of being a revhead, but rather something to enjoy as I have never ridden before. I am not unhappy with the SS but i want, neh need, to replace 1 toy with another. Any advice? What would you do? As i said earlier, pro-ford answers to selling the SS is not what im after, so lets pretend it is yourself with an xr8 or something Timmy |

Sell the VX SS and get 1 of the Bikes ............ You will like the extra power you never had.

Bikes are great but remember there is winter and autumn to consider, I can see you using the Bike even less than the SS on a year round basis, is the missus happy to drive the SS, have you actually asked her what she would prefer, and IF she only ends up driving it to the station and parking it, its really the same for either the Astra and or the SS, I would consider, holding out making a choice until you know here in the immediate future your partner will be working, Personally I would keep the SS/XR8 as having that extra room for weekenders and the like could come in handy. Also if you needed to I am sure the weights and the like might fit in the SS but would be a tight squeeze in the Astra should the 4X4 break down...

Personally I would sell the SS although I would probably miss it. If the missus is only driving a 15K round trip a small engined car would be better. The 5.7 wouldn't even get warmed up. And if she gets the other job I would think a VX SS would be more of a theft target than an Astra at a public carpark. Plus I bet the SS uses more fuel than her Astra.
But MYVYSS is right, talk it over with the missus and see which she prefers. And as far as the Surf breaking down the Astra is a hatchback so I'm sure there would be enough room for weights etc in an emergency. I am assuming it's an SS sedan you are talking about not a ute.
