Default Windscreen wiper blade

I asked the the local ford guy to change the windscreen wiper blade while doing the 3000 km services on the Mondeo. He smiled and said don't ask me to do that because they cost $160. They only sell the whole windscreen wiper assembly. So I can easily get the wind assembly off, that is no problem. What I don't want to do is not damage the windscreen wiper assembly while I am changing the blade. Does anybody have a suggested method to pull it apart with out breaking it?

Cheers

Just checked one of the ones on the lot & if you take off the whole arm you can remove the plastick cap on the very end. Just pull and and turn it from side to side and it will pop off. Pull out old blad and insurt new one. Push cap back on and and refitt to car. job done!

WTF

That's like me asking for a set of new tyres and having them say you can only get them complete with the rims.

CRIKEY! as some would say.

How did you go replacing the wiper blade? Where did you get a replacement?
I'm up to 47K km and Ford still want to replace the whole assy.
What the hell's going on here? What sort of stupid oversight is this from Ford Aus?

WOW now that is a worry. They cost £17.85 in the UK so I wonder if they will send them over?

I seem to remember someone mentioning the price of a replacement windscreen in the forum last year - something well over a thousand dollars I think.

The wiper blade assembly is a Bosch Aerotwin. Supercheap sell them in NZ.

Excellent. I'm over there every month. How much are they?
Maybe I'll bring back a few for other folks if they're cheap enough.

If you do a Google Australia search these appear to be very common on European cars sold in Australia so perhaps they won't be hard to find at a decent price.

I will never understand why car dealers overcharge to the extent they do for servicing and parts.

How often should you replace the wiper blades! I mean no Mondeo purchased in late 07 should have to replace their blades yet!

Supercheap sell them in Australia too.

Excllent blade, and only involves popping out a small plastic catch, and swap the assembly.

Ford parts prices are a joke sometimes.

I got quoted $190 each for Focus fuel injectors the other day (US$160 for set of four from US)

"They have to be imported from Europe mate" as though that justifies anything... postage is not that expensive.

Technical term is "gouging"! :

Reminds me of my Range Rover days back in the 80s: (I can't remember exact prices but the differences are about right) carburettor diaphragms from a dealer $25, from Holden (they were the same ones used in Toranas) $5. The Bendix electric fuel pumps around $140 - the RR Club used to import them from the US in batches of ten or so and sell to members for $60.

Sorry about the digression ... a little bit of old fart nostalgia. :voldar02:

My drivers blade seems to be badly misaligned/presses down too hard or something?. In any event, I get smearing/lines sometimes, and I only bought it late June last year. I'd change it myself one day, but it isnt annoying enough just yet.

I find with the driver's side, that the squirter doesn't hit the lower section of the windscreen, so the lower 3 - 4 inches is always dirty. And with the drama of having to get the wipers up, it tends to stay dirty.

Dusty, the fluid hits the lower part of the windscreen if you get the turbo working more. Try the calder freeway - it works for me.

Good for you. Just yesterday I got told NO for warranty for exactly the same thing. They said it is a wear and tear item and the book clearly states that wiper blades are not covered under warranty.

I explained to them that we have had the car since august last year and put on just over 8000 kilometres in drought I might add, not as lot of use for wipers then. I asked what the design life of a $130 wiper? The reply was (I laughed at him when the guy said this) "That depends on what you use them for". True story.

There was no convincing them otherwise.

When the wiper failed I just went to parts for one, was told the price and then went to service for warranty.

But to be told that a $130 wiper blade failed within such a short period of time is ridiculous. I would expect that a $130 wiper would last for a very long time.

Sure, they told me to talk to Ford CRC and having dealt with Ford CRC before I would rather slam a particular body part in the car door.

Just picked up my Mondeo this morning and I had the very same problem with my Focus. Peter Warren at Warwick farm here in Sydney, change the inserts but they don't work for very long at all. I had about 6 sets of blade in 3 years with the Focus.
When I mentioned this to the dealer when buying the mondeo he said to let Ford know as they he had not known of any problem.

I'm in for 60,000 km service, had the car for exactly 15 months and Ford have finally got wiper blades available.
I know its cheaper through the third party sellers but it's easier that I get this paid through the novation.

Ask for part number: 7S71 S17528 BA

Should be $75.90. This is a PAIR (both left and right) of blades (Blade and insert) and is a service unique OEM part, Made in Belgum same as original spec.
