Default Spotted - Ford GT40?

I saw a yellow car that looked like a road-going GT40 from the 60s. It cruised around the Bunnings carpark Sat. 19/12. Wickedly low - seemed to have racing rubber on it. Number plate - 0030 H - club plates.
Anyone seen it before? Is it a replica or original?

What's the base car needed to make a GT40 kit car? I've seen one around and they're pretty damn sexy

most of the kit cars come as a rolling chassis which is made by company.

Yep, GT40's and AC Cobra's. Chassis are built, suspension is jaguar (from memory) and for the most part you can choose the engine. Infact last time i looked, a change in QLD legislation meant you were now legally allowed to put a BOSS 5.4L into a kit car

One of the locals just imported a read deal GT 40 from the states...took 13 months. Spare cash for this fella is not an issue.

This thing is awesome. I can only dream

This is mostly because when a brand new kit car is built, it is considered a new car and has to comply with current emission regs.
Even the old EFi windsors don't come close, so a new modular motor is the easiest way to go.

There is a Boss powered GT40 rep. in NSW.

personally I think it looks rubbish in comparison to the other motors used

The new aloy chevs are turning up in all these kit cars, have seen a few cobra's running them lately, seems no one cares for keeping a ford a ford anymore.

I don’t know who owns it but here’s a pic of one that would be similar to the one that you saw. There are only two original MK 1 GT40s in Australia and the one that you saw wasn’t one of them.

There's no “donor” car for these vehicles. They are highly engineered replicas.

What? The GT 40 and Cobra replicas are two very different animals. Just for the record, RF do not make Cobra replicas. You’d be thinking of DRB.

An American Ford GT or a GT 40? There’s an enormous difference. A couple of million actually.

You think that this looks like rubbish compared to a Windsor? I wonder if the bloke in the green cap agrees with you.




If you fitted an eight barrel inlet manifold to a Boss and had the rear clip down, half the population wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

Kit car is a very loose term when referring to the RF GT 40. As stated earlier, these are highly engineered replicas.

Go back in to the mists of time and you'll find that the GT40 started as the Lola GT.

When Eric Broadley had a falling out with Ford the GT morphed in to the pretty aluminium monocoque Lola T70. The T70's had Aston Martin & Chev V8's (big blocks in Mark Donahue's case).

Always loved the T70's (mk 3 chassis with a mk 2 body and an all aluminium Chev big block please)
