As the title says next week a GT R spec will go to auction with only water damage. Link http://www.manheim.com.au/damaged-ve...=SearchResults
I am under the understanding that this can be put back on the road as its a rare car. It needs special permission which includes proof its a limited edition and an inspection as per a repairable write off. Car must have been a demo. Someone buy it and save this car from the wreckers.

I don't think it is re-registerable as its declared as statutory write off in the advertisement.
a repairable write off is another matter and could be re-registered after jumping through hoops JP |

That looks like the one from up here. It was not going when it drowned, it was sitting parked. The rivers rose very quickly and caught a lot of people off guard.
I think it could make a rather cool GT-XRspec ute |

I checked out some write offs last week at Pickles here in Brisbane
some of the stat write offs were still in perfect nick just the carpet smelled a bit I was looking at an FG G6 on dual fuel that was unmarked but couldnt be registered because of the flood damage just smelled a bit anyway talking to some older guys there said you could always buy them and send them off to NZ and not tell them about the stat write off dont know how true that is but could be a little earner I dont know what would be involved in exporting a car though thanks John |

Such a shame.
But flood damage is such a big risk, especially with the amount of electronics in a car these days. Anyone buying it to put back on the road doesn't know what there're getting into. They might be lucky, might not be. Is it driving now or has the electronics been shot? There'd be a hell of a lot of parts value there I'm guessing.

You can reregister a stat write off providing you can prove that it is a rare build car. A bloke recently did it with TS 50 stat write off. You have to write to the transport department explaining that it would too big a lose to not repair the car due to its collectibility. Only 2 hoops for a repairable write off and that's safety certificate and wovr inspection it's that easy. Don't believe everything you hear. You would never be able to do this with a normal GT or other falcon.

Where do you think the grey imports from Japan are sourced? Not usually brand new cars - repaired wrecks is fairly common. NZ is already a dumping ground for cars so the suggestion is not a bad one.

NZ is hardly a dumping ground these days, you might want to do some research on what's actually allowed these days. Sure back in the 90s anything was allowed but now they are quite strict, and having rolling age limits on what can be brought into the country. |

If the car in question could be re-registered by the good graces of the department it would be interesting to know what would have to be replaced, safety related electricals or the whole lot. It would also be interesting to know what a replacement wiring loom would be worth from Ford JP |

I would hate to be a recipient of a flood damaged car unknowingly, and then find 12 months/2 years down the track it`s getting rust breaking out everywhere and electronics and electrical connections all over the car are starting to fail from corrosion,
i would buy the car if cheap cheap use the good bits for spares or a rod/project, not that brave to buy as a daily fixer upper. |

it would come up on a revs report as a repaired write off

One point to consider for all those who are drooling over it. It is very rare item and it is at a public auction. Any of you who have been to a few auctions will be quite aware of "the idiot" with more money than sense who takes not winning anything he bids on as a personal affront and will pay far more than an item is worth just so he owns it and you don't. Do not be surprised if this auction is actually the "the idiot" annual general meeting....... |

Send it to the wreckers. I’ll take the engine for my little project, but for the rest of the car, just use the bits that aren’t affected by water damage.
As for rare, can anyone here please explain to me about what’s rare about any FG Falcon? Do they still make FG Falcons?

even if someone was able to re rego that car it's a huge risk as any electrics like computers may fail later from corrosion and they can be expensive
plus the real world resale value of the car even re regoed would be far less than one not on the WOVR and the pool of buyers much smaller too. Ask yourself if despite a lower price you'd take the risk of buying a car that's been water damaged but 'repaired' |

Being a GTR and packed full of electronics I wouldn't go near it, and Nissan are notorious for charging the earth for parts for these cars, AFAIK.
A different era but I remember Fred Gibson talking about how much Nissan charged him for R32 parts back in the day, like $2000 for a waterpump etc. The parts prices were just absurd, luckily he had the Winfield money to afford it. |
