Default Xr6 Sprint - Is it good value?

So what do you get in the Sprint that you didn't in the regular xr6 T and is it worth over $9,800 (price gap)?
Well...
-325kw engine /4k (This isn't just a flash tune)
-Rspec suspension /3k
-Wider tyres /$500
-Pirelli tyres(rumoured) /1k
-Lux pack /2k
-19inch black rims 1k
-6/4 Brembos front& back /5k
-Electric mirror /$200
-Special edition
Stripes & decals /$500

Total = $17,200

So I think the answer is Yes, it is worth the money.
For anyone wanting one in Qld, there is 1 left in Rocky.

It's absolutely worth the money for the fact that it's fitted with the F6 turbo (or other larger variant), Brembo's and wider wheels which aren't available on the XR6T.

How much were F6s? This Sprint has more than what the F6 had and I'm pretty sure its cheaper.

Default Re: Xr6 Sprint - Is it good value?

Probably is a lot of car for the money, but on the other hand the estimates for additional costs are based on retail prices and assume that the parts that have been removed have no value at all. Consider:

1. I can't comment too much on the cost of the engine mods but assuming its just a case of a tune and possibly a bigger 'cooler and airbox then this shouldn't cost the manufacturer more than $2000 to do at the factory, eg. $1000 for development of tune, $500 each to exchange airbox and cooler for larger items. Obviously would be more if it had better valves, bearings, radiator, trans cooler, transmission or diff, but probably doesn't.

2. R spec suspension presumably means different spring and shock rates. Retail for a set of kings or pedders springs and Bilsteins is $1400 delivered, less retail for standard springs and shocks, perhaps $800, is $600. I'm guessing they don't put adjustable shocks or better quality bushes in it?

3. Agree $1500 is about right if it has bigger and better quality wheels and tyres, although the manufacturing cost for a 19 vs 18 inch wheel is probably about $10 of aluminium per wheel. And 19s seem to buckle more easily that 18s so probably aren't actually better quality or stronger. If they were then 1.2 cms less sidewall might not make so much difference...

4. Brembos probably do cost about $5k all round, less $1000 for the retail price of the standard bits, so call it $4k

5. Lux pack no arguments at $2k although the bolsters on the lux pack seats seem to collapse pretty quickly, so look good but not very durable. On the other hand a G6E costs $3000 more and doesn't have an LSD, so in effect about $4000 more.

6. Electric mirror good at $200 and stripes questionable benefit.

So added up this way you get to swap out a bunch of existing parts for a bunch of upgraded parts for close to full retail, or perhaps $500 discount. Probably still not a bad deal if you were going to all do this anyway and wanted to keep the factory warranty and good resale. I don't think it'd be easy to DIY for less.

Maybe not, its not Friday,

The car is worth as much as anybody that wants one is willing to pay.

This is the last chance to buy into this chapter of Australian motoring history.

Of course its good value.

Can anyone confirm if its a lightly fettled F6 engine. Or a more heavily tuned xr6t engine?

It's good but not brilliant value. There is a lot more choice in 2016 and there is no denying it's an ageing platform.

For comparison, I paid around $60,300 including on roads for my 2014 F6, with metallic paint and the 6/4 brake upgrade. That was a good price but plenty of people paid similar amounts in the last couple of years of the FPVs.

Add ~$2500 for shockworks (installed), which I'd be putting on a sprint anyway cause they're brilliant
$1800 for quality (Works) 8.5/9.5 staggered rims (only a few hundred changeover cost after I sold the FPV wheels), considerably reduced unsprung weight as well

Tyres were replaced as normal maintenance so not counted, but ~$1200 for Invos.

I don't think I'd notice 15kW/11Nm difference at the flywheel. So yes the XR6 sprint will provide a lot of performance for the money, but nothing that hasn't been possible for similar coin in the last 4 years.

The things you’ve listed have a minimal cost for a manufacturer and are only worth the extra manufacturing cost over and above the items they’re replacing.

So yeah probably worth it if you were to do it yourself but for the manufacturer it’s just fat to make a bigger profit on, which is always the case for higher spec cars.

I too do sense I may have entered the green zone.

They've definately thrown all the good bits at these Sprints but then they've had to after all the car is now 8 years old bar cosmetic changes! If you're a lover of Falcon and are in the market I'd say don't hesitate But if you've recently bought a XR8 or FPV i wouldn't be panic selling to jump into one. Fords flooded the market with performance versions of the Falcon in the last few years, just go on carsales and see how many there are to choose from!

Yeah does anyone have any info/ideas on exactly what the engine is? Is it the same bigger turbo used in the f6?

The XR6 Sprint is good value for the money. But I think I'll be keeping to my FG F6. Simple because its the last line of the FPV range, resale and the heritage. A bit like the GT's with street credit and attitude.

Fair call. The Sprints rear end looks much better with the chrome strip blended in to the duco colour.

If you got a 1 year old XR6T for 36-40k, what could you do to it with the 20k in change.

But is the 6 Sprint good value over the XR8 that already has 10 more kilowatts, bigger wheels, upgraded brakes (admittedly 4 not 6 pots, but will you notice the difference if it never goes on a track) etc??

I think so. I swapped my Sprint order from a V8 to the turbo once I saw the specs. Will hang on to my FGX XR8 for awhile though. Will be interesting to see what the difference between the 2 will be. Only disappointment is no manual for the 6. (My 8 is a manual)

I wonder how many have that happen.

I'm firmly in the 'no like' category for the front but when I saw the render I loved it. But then I saw the spy shots I went back to my original thinking.

Render makes it look better than it is.

What do you mean by electric mirrors as an extra feature over a XR6T?
Did Ford make the FGX without electric mirrors in 2016?
