Default Percentage of Falcons/Comms (Hoons)

Reported on the news tonight that 53% of cars 'canaried' since the hoon blitz in Vic were Commodores. 16% were Falcons followed by imports. Is this a fair indication on how many Commodores are out there compared to Falcons or is it that they just get caught doing stupid things? Are stats showing that Falcon drivers are less prone to 'Hoon"?

Would like to know how accurate these figures are and where they come from as I caught it at the end of the story.

Those figures don’t surprise me in the least...

I don’t think one particular group is more likely to get caught than any others, I would be confident in saying that Commodores get defected more, because the average commodore driver is more likely to draw attention to themselves by doing risky and dangerous things on the road.

I also feel that Ford drivers in general are less likely to hoon around, as they don’t have anything to prove... Something that commodore drivers do a lot.

Just my opinion on the "general" appearances of Ford and Holden drivers, obviously each camp has morons within their circles, it just seems that the Holden brigade requires you to be a dick behind the wheel...

I think you'll just find that the number of commodores amongst younger people is a lot higher percentage then Fords. From my own experiences, a large majority between 17-22 seem to be driving a VL - VR commodore. With the VN being the most common car amongst this age group (my age group) I've seen around. Also from my own experiences, it seems to be easier to find a car from this model range thats still half decent at an affordable price, when compared with similar aged Fords.

There are idiots in Fords and Holdens. The Commo is just more popular to 'hoons'. Got nothing to do with the car, as much as people like to pretend.

Being 26 myself im getting a bit more mature i guess, though a lot of blokes a few years younger than i more likely to have Commodores.
But to be honest, there have been a lot of assclowns in Commodres who think it cool to overtake me in my XC hardtop or my EF doing really stupid speeds.
Let alone the ones who want to race you at the lights in their stock v6 Commadores with a 'go fast' Jet Pilot sticker on the rear window
Some people have no idea :

How's that saying go again?
"Increase your IQ by 25 points and buy a ford"

Ford will always attract a more mature driver simply for the fact that the cars are like their owners; a whole lot more sophisticated. These rules aren't hard and fast as you get exceptions but honestly, when you look deep down inside and work out why you bought a ford over a holden you begin to realise that you could not be classed as a bogan. It's sort of like being asked; "why did you buy a mercedes instead of a volkswagen?"

Or letting them take off and watching them get caught by Lidar 50 metres down the road as the case was yesterday.

I rather bait them for a speed camera. Stay level with them up a hill, brake and watch someone lose their licence on the otherside :

That will teach the bastards to hazard me :

The majority of hoons i see drive VN/VP/VR/VS tin cans. I haven't seen many falcon hoons but if I did they probably would be driving an E-series.

I'd have to say that these model commodores also seem to be able to do burn outs easier than similar Fords. I saw a guy pop 6 sets of tyres in one night (at an event my parent's business held a few years ago) on his VN, stock V6 and Auto and then drove it home the next day. I'm sure there's heaps of similar model Fords that go hard as well, but just from what I've seen, the holden's are a lot more popular on the burn out scene.

As others have said, there's dick heads in every camp, don't blame the brand.

They dont own a Macca's franchise do they? It just seems extremely lop sided against commodores though. I would have thought that the rice brigade would have been higher in the percentage.

Say what you will about commodore drivers.... but it looks like a ford will be the first car forfeited under the vic anti-hoon laws.

Can these stat's be found anywhere?

I always thought I saw 5 Commodore Hoon for every Falcon. But I just though I was being bias due to my choice in cars. It seems the way to go, if you want to hoon, buy a commodore. I know it's not the car that makes the hoon, it's the driver, but it seems they like to do it in Holdens..

Well, most of the try hard hoons are sheep, sheep follow whatever is "popular". Makes sense to me.

I read this one too. This clown deserves to lose his car permanently, and IMO should have his licence taken too. He's a braindead tosser that obviously doesn't get it.

Ford Forums stance on hooning is well known and sensible...

These people give car enthusiasts a bad name and the media get into every time something happens.

Politicians won't make a law just for Commodore drivers unfortunatley, it will apply to all cars and drivers...

PS that clown in the XR6 deserves to loose it...

His mum is quoted as saying that "Its unfortunate he will be the first"

Ahhhh nooo it isn't - The law was designed specifically to do something about people like your son and his attitude.

I believe ALL makes and brands have their d***heads, but Commodores do seem to contain the most.

I think it's because Commodores are everywhere and the average bogan can pick one up, even if they're on the dole. (Same for late X-Series and early E-Series Falcons too I guess)

I'm hating the whole "Hoon" image Commodores have, which is why I'm thinking about buying a Falcon for my next car. I want to get away from it and because I like Falcons just as much. Stuff my Holden loving mates.

Anyway yeah I think the availability and cost of the average Commodore, is the reason that the average f***head, gets behind the wheel of one.

the first question that needs to be answered is how many of these cars (commodores vs falcons - early 90's to early 00's) were sold brand new.

my understanding is that more commodores would have been made & sold within this period, therefore there is more of them around at cheaper prices these days, hence more young drivers around in commonwhores than falchoons.

from what I can recall it was pretty even, and if anything ford was selling more.

It's just that the commodore is a more popular choice for the younger generation of car enthusiasts - ie, p plater hoons.

I got my P's a week or so ago and i actually stand out ALOT driving a falcon among my mates... Older commodores just seem to be the set standard among people interested in cars my age.
