Default Windows Vista Blows.......

Big Dirty Thumbs Down to Windows Vista.
I find it annoying, hard to keep track of where you are when exploring your system, I manage to crash it every time i use it, and i have the latest top of the line Dell Desktop with more than enough to cope with the huge software size and req, and that is not running multiple APP's even!

Can i revert back to XP?
I didnt get an XP CD with my last computer, but a system recovery one with it on it, it is also a DELL, but a laptop.
Windows Vista is NOT use friendly like i was lead to believe! : : :yeees:

Anything i can do, should I call Dell and ask them to send me out another operating system... one that works smoothly?

Hmm not sure if you did any reading up on it first but most consider the basic version of Vista a complete waste of time.

In a lot of cases Ultimate is the only way to go. You can get the OEM or upgrade version at decent prices. Personally I'd go OEM just buy a cable or something at the same time and you can get an OEM version.

Just get someone to slipstream a copy of XP with SP2 etc in it and use that.

Vista is like going from windows2000 to XP, yes it all a bit different, but everything is there if you look for it.

I will agree that vista basic is a waste of an upgrade, why people would do it is beyond me, i see no advantage to be had at all.

If your buying a computer, try to get an XP machine before all the computer retailers package Vista with everything. Its a bit too late with Dell.

Linux is ok, if you love programming, tweaking drivers, and don't expect to run many programs.

A shame some of you folks are having issues with Vista, I have had nothing that can't be swiftly sorted. Still waiting on a full release driver for my sound card, but the beta is working fine. TV card is the only major driver hassle, but works fine using Media Center instead of the supplied software. Although Vista packaged with new PC's is a little headache at times, that coming from a PC builder that I know. I personally prefer to build my own and run with it, rather than buying a branded system. That way you know what you have got.

I believe that it pays to wait a little while after release so all those ****y bugs can be ironed out. Look at Windows 98...3 years after its release it was the worst OS I had ever used. I actually shelled to MS Dos (THE Dos...not prompt) more often. I only used Windows for Windows-only gaming, or for MS Office. Then in 2000 when I got the web, I creamed my pants and spent hours everyday. But I got over it.

Do you have an previous copy of XP? You can revert back to XP but you can't back out of the install, it would require a fresh install.

I've got 2 machines running Vista. This one which is my main machine and I've had very few problems with it. My XP boot got smacked with a virus (by the looks of things) and is trashed, I haven't got around to repairing it and have been exclusively Vista for the last week and a half. I quite like it. If I had to pay for it, would I have been happy? Probably not.

My other machine which sits there and does pretty much sod all except grab torrents and act as a media server blue screens quite often. Previous to that it was running 2003 and never crashed. Only time I recall rebooting was on a VMWare install. Spent 2 weeks in the US a few months ago and would ftp torrent files to it so I could keep up to date with my TV while I was away. If I was to travel again, I'd trash Vista on that machine and stick 2003 back on.

Pretty happy with it on this machine though.

i have just upgraded from xp pro 64 bit to vista business 64 bit edition via the microsoft redemtion. i have had no real drama, i done a lot of homework and got all official drivers and the beta drivers i needed to complete the clean install and it was smooth sailing. i personally think vista is a huge leap ahead of xp and while there is the initial learning curve with any new software i am fast coming to grips with how this system works and operates. i couldn't imagine going back to xp now.

Running Vista Ultimate here...had very few problems..and any I have had, have been easy to rectify...as EA2BA said, its like going from 2000 to XP...its a little different at first...but once you know where things are, its actually a lot better organised and featured than XP...I love it...will never go back to XP...

Regarding your camera, have you installed manufacturer Vista drivers? Or did it install them for you?
