Hi guys.
Just need to know who makes the HDD for HP notebooks. Need to get a diagnostic tool. Or if you know how to fix a PXE-E61 error message Cheers |

Hard to say. They usually have more than one supplier.
On bootup, during the BIOS POST test, you should be able to see a model number. Grab that model number and google it.

I've just poked around on www.computerforum.com and it seems the those who managed to 'fix' this had to do it with a new HDD...

Thanks for your help guys. Just finished chatting with HP support. They recommended sending it back to the store for a replacement. I agree, can't be stuffed fixing the HDD then having to run an illegal version of XP despite having a Vista licence, until I get my mitts on Vista.

This is the matching error code explanation. It's a hardware error. Turn off LAN Boot/PXE Boot in BIOS. More stuff below.
PXE-E61: Media test failed, check cable. Most likely the cable is not plugged in or connected. Could be a bad cable, NIC or connection. Double-check that the HDD has the highest boot priority in the BIOS. If it does, but you still get the PXE errors, that most likely means that the HDD is toast. What's happening is that, failing to boot from the harddrive, the BIOS is "falling through" the other available boot options (hence the PXE messages). |
