We have a 2021 escape and it's a great car. Obviously 200/month isn't a lot but how much does it really cost them to put them on the boat? We won't have to worry about what to replace it with for a while but it will likely kill the resale value.

It's pretty telling that the Puma makes up half of their profits. The margins are too small in small city cars to even worry about. Ford are just taking the easy route to more profitable SUV's, which cost no more to make, but they can charge more for them. Like it or lump it, that's the reality. But a lot of the other manufacturers are starting to follow suit, with Hyundai about to axe the i30, Kia axing the Rio, and Toyota having to jack the price of a Yaris or Corolla to ridiculous levels (32k for a base Corolla ffs) just to try to make a profit on it. Small cars are a woftam now. And just wait till the entry point for mainstream EV small cars is 50k, excluding the garbage chinese ones you wouldn't **** on. |

Haven't been able to get Escape in reasonable supply for the last 18 months +.
Good cars let down by basically zero supply (few hundred a month at best). Doesn't seem to bother Ford or dealers though. You can wait up to 2 months at some dealers for a service now (all since Ford brought in the capped price cheap services and 5 year warranties everyone is now using dealers over independents, cheaper plus you get peace of mind plus a free loan car).

Ours goes in for second service tomorrow. Loan car is free. Excess is $1000 or you can pay $30 and waive the excess. We don't pay.

Escape is a fairly thirsty machine on urban work
The rep I dealt with to buy Puma told me the Escapes did a true 15 l per 100 km round town helped no doubt by lead feet being a company car |

Ford is pretty much dead to me now, can't see anything I would fork out money for new, I'll stick to what I have for now, and keep on the hunt for a low k 335 Falcoon. Worst car decision I've ever made letting go of my old one, so miss the whine and the shove in the back at 80kms. Last edited by five 7; 19-04-2023 at 05:16 PM. |

The 2.0 Ecoboost Mondeo Titanium around town was not much better than the 4-speed auto BA Futura it replaced. The 2.0 Ecoboost Jaguar is the same. I like the mid range torque these engines produce, so that explains the higher fuel use. The flipside to that is hwy economy, those little 2.0's are brilliant sitting in top gear below the boost point.

To have a more diverse buyer demographic, bring in shoppers who might not otherwise consider a Ford, in case the ute market eventually declines they have a fall back...to have a range that doesn't mean your eggs fill only 3 slots in that one dozen egg crate.

I have to support this, never paid a cent for any loan car from my local Ford dealer and just sign the release after they photocopy my drivers licence accepting an excess should I prang it...

That's pretty decent. I checked the ave speed on ours and it's 33kmh, so not as low as I thought. Still pretty good though I reckon.

I'm thinking Mustang March-E will pick up a few sales provided Ford can meet demand.

Ford Trucks died out about 20 years before the local stuff did.
These days all you get are full size SUVs - and the associated profit margin. Go ahead, take your pick between open-boot or closed-boot.

What a pity. Ford makes some very good cars, it's just that whoever is running the company isn't doing a very good job of it.

Advantage with my dealer using old AU/BA/odd FGs as loan cars is that I never have to sign anything, nor have copies of my licence taken. Hence I assume there is no insurance applicable to me and they'll just cover the cost.
Mind you, I once had a demo Puma as a loan car and never signed or provided anything then, either. It's not often that using an old banger as a loan car works in your favour
