If a car is bought at auction, ie. without a roadworthy certificate, is there a maximum time allowed to obtain a RWC and therefore be able to transfer ownership.
The VicRoads site says 14 days, but what if the RWC takes longer, say 3-4 weeks. |

14 days for the transfer of ownership, I would just go in and explain your situation.

VicRoads doesn't actually track ownership of a vehicle. As long as you have paid for it (and got a receipt) it's yours!
https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/regi...stered-vehicle registration is all they care about and the unregistered vehicle permit above is what you need to move the car about until you are ready to register it. no time limit on getting rego. |

The guys above have pretty much summed it up nicely, but this page is specifically about buying an unregistered vehicle and may be of some assistance.

Done exactly this a couple of times. Assuming the car is registered, auction house will advise vicroads of the sale, if no rwc/transfer received they will write to you giving you 14 days to complete. The good part is this will take at least a month for them to process, giving you six weeks minimum roughly.
