CFA Brigades on the Road Thanks to Ford
May 7 2009
Ford is presenting CFA with four new vehicles today, one of which will replace a car lost in the February bushfires.
Ford Australia President and CEO Marin Burela will present CFA Chairman Kerry Murphy with the keys to four donated Ford Ranger 4WD diesel utes at Kilmore at 2.15pm this afternoon. The vehicles are valued at more than $155,000 and will go to brigades at Craigieburn and Tallangatta, while one will be used in the Yarra Area and one at Westernport.
Craigieburn’s brigade car was destroyed on February 7 while members were assisting residents and protecting assets in Humevale and Kinglake West. The car was being used to stop people entering fire-affected areas but was abandoned when the fire front approached. The car was destroyed but brigade members sheltered in a tanker and were unharmed.
Mr Murphy said Ford had generously supported CFA during the bushfires by providing 20 loan vehicles for response and recovery projects, and was thrilled the company had donated the Rangers.
“I am proud to be chairman of CFA, and part of my pride comes from the knowledge that the ethos of our organisation is based on mateship – friends helping friends, communities helping communities and private and public sector helping each other,” he said. “Ford’s assistance during the fires is very much appreciated.”
Mr Burela said the company wanted to find practical ways to support the emergency services who risked their lives to help communities on Black Saturday.
"As we're in the car business, one of the most useful ways to assist CFA was to replace the vehicles lost in the devastating bushfires with new Ford Rangers,” he said. "The donation of these vehicles supports a broader range of bushfire assistance programs including an employee donation scheme, vehicle loan program and paid emergency service leave for CFA and SES volunteers."
The vehicles will be presented at 2.15pm today (Thursday, 7 May, 2009) in Kilmore. Media and invited guests are asked to meet at the Kilmore Fire Station, Conway St, Kilmore, before travelling to the presentation site in a nearby fire-affected area. If it is wet, the presentation will take place at the Kilmore station.
