Just another way to attract young people in having debt and ruining their lives.

I'm not falling for it.

There is no right reason for using a credit card.

Well where do I start.

Ever tried to book an airfare (or anything online?). I used to get paid monthly, so it was good inbetween pays, its good for emergency's, alot of products can only be brought with a card.

Paying bills etc, then you just transfer the cash.

Lots of good things about them, they are great if you are smart with them.

all that is true. but you dont need a credit card to do all those things.....

Ever heard of a Debit card. "ACTS" the same way as a credit card but instead of "REAL" credit it just subracts it from your savings.....and you get it with VISA....so basically when you select Credit on the card it is actually just taking it out of your savings...which is waht i got. yet i can still use the card in many places over the world cause it has VISA on it......none of this Interest crap or limits bull...if you dont have it. you cant spend it. if you want it go get a loan. Otherwise if you know how to save your pennies then you shouldnt have a problem.....

in my View CREDIT CARDS are evil in the hands of young adults......

but a debit card gives them all that kinda freedom except not giving them credit.

the only Best Kinda Card there is...Debit Card

Yeap my GF has a debit card, I agree its good.

Im at uni, and get caught out sometime like Im sure alot of people do, so thats when it coms in handy, I just pay whatever I spend off next time I get paid.

In the end it comes down to a bit of disipline I guess.

ANZ does it for all their cards, not just credit. I have a personalised ATM card with my car on it, I'd post a pic of it but I don't have the email with the pic attached anymore.

They are usually only used as a last option, but it is an option you didn't have previously.

Anyway....I want a pic on mine...LOL..Pretty sure Westpac hasn't done it as an Indian lady hasn't called me twenty times about it yet.

That's what I used to think, never had one in my life......that was until about 6 months ago when my ISP changed the way they accept payment, had to get one to direct debit.
I use the 45 day free interest period and pay up every cent as soon as the bill comes in the post, have found it handy at times, like recently when I had to hire a car, they only accepted credit card...."they wouldn't even take cash."

Think there OK in the right hands, perhaps not in the hands of the younger generation who have to have "everything right now no matter what the consequences."

Ok, ok... ease up guys.
: FFS.. It was a post about putting a pic on my card.. Not to launch into a tirade on the evils of credit cards!
And for the record, the ANZ card concerned is not only a Visa card, but also my Access account & my cheque account.
I fail to see how outlaying the HUGE sum of $15 for a pic on my card is either "falling for it" or ruining my life. :

its actually a very good idea which has the potential to reduce credit card fraud. if you put a pic of yourself on it, nobody else would be able to use it.

Most people these days NEED a credit card to meet their monthly expenses. Consider how much the basics have gone up, PLUS GST. We get screwed left right and centre while those in business and essential service providers get everybodys money! Plus everyone just has to have all the latest JUNK like plasma screens, iPods and associated crap. Who can afford to drink and smoke these days?

Your car, yourself/family or a tree is just about all you CAN put on the card:

Quote:
No trademarks, logos, slogans, company names, get up, copyrighted material or brands of any third party
No advertising or promotional material, or branded products
No celebrities, actors, musicians, sportspeople, cartoons or public figures
No works of art
No phone numbers, addresses, URL addresses, account or PIN numbers
No provocative or sexual material
No violent or other offensive, obscene or indecent material
No nudity or semi-nudity
No bigotry, racism, hatred, profanity or obscenities
No alcohol, tobacco, gambling, firearms or pharmaceutical products
No images that show illegal or anti-social behaviour
No culturally or socially insensitive images
No images that display the opinions or beliefs of political groups, religious groups or socially unacceptable groups (e.g. political images, neo-Nazi images, gangs)
No libellous or defamatory content, or content which is otherwise in violation of any rules, regulations or laws to which the images are subject
No content not acceptable for persons under 18 years old.
I understand they need to protect themselves from all sorts of lawsuits the society of today can throw at them, but it does take the fun out of it a bit

i have a debit card and a credit card. the debit card i have is a visa, and it's fine for australian websites/purchases, but anything O/S won't work. whereast the credit card will. they both have their good and bad points, but as Al said you have to be smart.

I wonder if I could put a male and female symbol on it and a big 69 :P

I like the idea of a picture on the card. I'd put a pic of myself on there. But I'd only do it if it were a free sevice. They already charge an annual fee for their cards so it should be free IMHO.

Do the Commonwealth bank do it? their NZ subsidiary (ASB) don't do it on debit or credit cards.
