Possible plane wreckage near Mt Dissappointment (VIC)

Do any of you guys know of any WW2 aircraft which crashed into forest near Mt Dissapointment? Thought thats interesting since I go 4x4ing with some mates there and thought what the...

Yes in 1940 2 RAAF planes crashed there they were flying from Laverton-Bowen in QLD.Dont know what planes they were though,should only be a motor there still i think not much else in a gully off Phone track i think.

Similar to the two hikers who decided to climb Mt Variable weather, even after Gramps (Bud Tingwell) and The ****weak Kids told them there was a storm coming.

Edwin Maher (the former Channel 2 weatherman) even said that if you are caught in a storm, do not seek shelter in precipitous cliffs. But the hikers did.

Thank heavens Charlie the Wonderdog was there to save the day.

About 8km directly north of Whittlesea, but way longer to actually get there as its all 4WD tracks to get there.

Yep When I was in the Army Cadets I did my ATA course at Mt disappointment.
There was some cadets from all over Victoria there that week and a unit 1.5km from us found a dead body.. It was told to us that the person had been dead for at least 10 years and found with all there stuff like they were a hiker.

I would say between 800m to 2 km thats about as close as i can give you without gps coordinates.

There is an old truck chassis with a sidevalve V8 motor in it half way up a track that comes out somewhere not far from Wandong.

I did some trail bike riding up there years ago, bloody rocky and steep.

Graham and the colonel is another one of their skits on the show, Rob Sitch and Santo, hilarious. I think they did the ****take of the Lucky Grills cop show too and called it Barge ****, also funny as

By the way, The Late Show was national... I was a HUGE fan of it here in NSW back in the day. So were all my mates. I think it's grown in popularity on video and DVD in the years since, though.

Haha - I've got it in my dvd collection - now I remember, although the Yassir "Yessir" Araffat segments get more airtime in my house.

The prosthetics on The Late Show were great. The Arnold Schwarzenegger impersonation was great. I also liked Sitch's Paul Lyneham, John Hewson, Jeff Kennett and F.W. De Clerk impersonations...also because of the content.

heard about this years ago when i use to ride the trail bike up there , thought it was all a rumor, never came across it was told that many different areas were it could be ,
some bloody good trails up there and the hills dammmm they can be a challenge all the fun when its been raining.

not happy now dont have a bike any more ,

A few years back we went to a wreck site near Monto. Long way off the beaten track and on private property. These are some pictures taken at the site. It is/was a C47 transporter..

Aviation arceology used to be a bit of a hobby when we lived in QLD. Cape York is littered with WW2 wrecks. Especially Aircobra's.
