I'm planning on doing a little traveling through Australia and am wondering what the best to travel would be? Train? Bus? car rental? buy a car? I'll be in Australia for about 6 weeks so I have a bit of time to get to different places.
any suggestions? keep price in mind as well |

Everything is totally dependant on your budget.
Trains. In the cities trains would be OK but touring forget it, very poor service. Bus. Ok in cities and for touring. Try http://www.greyhound.com.au/bookings...g_buspass.aspx Car Rental. Expensive. Buy a car. Could be the way. There are some car hire places that will sell or hire for the length of your stay then buy the vehicle back. If you dont mind roughing it a little, a Campervan would be the way to go. Check out some of the campervan places on the net for prices. Where are you from BTW?

Thats a good site wicked campers. $2100 plus insurance for 48 days on a van from melbourne to cairns. That would allow you plenty of time to get everywhere, and time to stop and enjoy things... US$1630 odd, 1250 Euro, and 835 pound! There, thats enough research on a Sunday... Thats a pretty cheap holiday... Last time i went away, it was around $350-$400 Australian dollars per day.... damn holidays in Europe are expensive!

A lot of campervan places have what they call $1 or dollar a day rentals where they need to get a certain van from one city to another. The vans may not be 100% perfectly clean and are only available at certain times but for $1 a day you might be able to work around that.
