I am out and about in western Sydney quite often, yet dont seem to ever see this type of stuff, dont know where you live Lotto but maybe its time you moved if its that bad. Are you saying that we should be locking young people up for years at a time for minor street offences? Good way to lessen crime, throw all the young fella's with a little attitude into crime schools, where they'll get taught how to do hold ups and get away with it,get bashed and victimised and come out with a rage against society looking to let loose. Seems you were never young, you were a boy scout too I bet,I dont know about anyone else but Im not scared to walk any street in Sydney at night or any other time, talk about hysteria,Im just glad the likes of you dosnt make the decisions on crime and policing in NSW... |

I got pulled over in LA when I was 20. Situation ran like this. I pull over. I hear from the rear of the car to put my hands out of the window. 1 policeman approaches the car with his holster undone and hand on his weapon. 2nd policeman stays by the rear of the vehicle with weapon drawn. This is a typical traffic stop mind you. I was 20 and in LA at the time they had a curfew(Which I was unaware of at the time only having just arrived in LA the day before from Vancouver) so they were quite ready to take me to jail until my parents arrived to pick me up because I was a minor(under 21). I explained how that might take a few days to happen as they arent in the country. This they quickly deduced was the truth after going over my international license (Again) and actually reading it this time. In the end I had to have my Boss who was a Lawyer & Crime Scene Consultant vouch for me, and I was escorted back to my hotel. Otherwise I'd have spent the night in lockup irregardless of my country of origin. Working for who I did at the time, I got to see a hell of alot more. Alot more then any member of the general public would want to see. Zero Tollerance = Zero Intelligence It removes the ability of the officer attending to use his own judgement on intent and harmful act. The law that was impacting me was designed to keep underage gangs off the street, but the Officer was unable to differentiate due to the operational restraints of "zero tollerence". I was lucky to be able to bend the situation as much as I did. Justice systems are complex machines full of imperfect humans(as all humans are), imperfect laws(as all laws are) and will chew you up and spit you out should you see fit to start altering how they work. More then enough politicians have felt its effect on reelection night after trying to tinker with it. The US Legal system is a support apparatus to the social security system. Those who dont believe it, are simply lying to themselves. Tote is 100% correct in his estimation. Voters dont want to see money spent on mental health or welfare as its deemed a waste of money. However money spent on law enforcement is always popular. Treat the Symptom. Not the cause.

Take Ben cousins for example. I reckon if every single sport in the country brought in a Zero tolerence, I personally think Ben Cousins should be banned for life. If they made it 1 strike and your banned for life would make them think twice. I know the argument from the clubs will be 'but we invested so much money in them" The answer to that is simple, If the sports player screws up and gets caught for a drug or serious criminal offence put a clause in thier contract so that the club can sue them for recovery of thier losses.

Nugget, what would you recommend be done with those that have bashed, raped, indecently dealt with an individual, elderly, male, female or child alike?
What should be done with those that have no respect for individuals rights and invade them by verbal and physical abuse for no apparent reason? Maybe you do live in a cocoon. I don't know. Things might be better where you are. I agree with a number here that society within this country has taken a bad turn somewhere and are not taking responsibily of their actions. No respect anymore. After what occurred to my 8yr old daughter 2 year ago in the hands of a trusted friend, I now have a burning hatred for those with no respect for the rights of others. No one has the right my eyes to invade anyone liberties for no reason without consequence. Personally, people like that should be strung up as society just don't need scum of that type ...... let alone support them once they are convicted. If it were not for my firm belief that my family, my children need me, I would happily put a 25c bullet between the eyes of these social misfits. To this very day, my gut still burns from the moment I wake. |

something is wrong somewhere with the legal system, as you get in more trouble for defending what is your than the crook who put himself inside your house!!
i have always been respectful to police and have been given the same respect on the most part, perhaps i am just lucky, but many times i have seen the softer side of a punishment. i dont believe that the police are the weak link in the system.

The Police do the best job they can, but are P'd off by lenient Magistates. In the small country town I'm in, over the last 10 yrs or so the same feral names appear in the local court all the time. Break and enter, assault, DUI, breaking AVO's etc. and still no jail time. Just extra good behaviour bond time and a small fine. If they break their bond, they just get an extention of extra bond time. Go figure! They just show a finger to the law.
It's the courts that need to get tough. |

I undersatnd your feelings with this disgusting situation and if it happened to me I would be inside now, quite happily, but its these types of understandable human emotions that can get out of hand if they become part of justice. First we lynch rapers and murderers, then its robbers and break and enterers, before you know it you will be doing time for 15 over the speed limit and forgetting to buy a new weekly for the train. This is the problem with this zero tolerance mentality, every circumstance is different and every person different,it cant work. |

All I'm saying is, until you are the victim, you will never know how you are going to react, know the full impact or how the law is going to deals with it. Bottom line as I see it, respect for your fellow man is slowly becoming a thing of the pass ........ Some countries just don't tolerate this type of behaviour. Here, if convicted, a slap over the knuckled and feed for free at the tax payers expense for the length of your term. Maybe miltary service might be an avenue that can be explored for this sort of scum. Send them straight to the front line ........ as sandbags. |

And they can't prove they did'nt because the parent and child have belief the other does'nt. In other words the parent controlled the child to such extent that what was told to be said was said. I'm sorry for your wounds I too have some that will never heal.

Kiddie fiddlers are a whole different kettle of fish. A murderer, thief or straight rapist can be rehabilitated in a lot of cases. Even the psychologists who treat paedophiles admit than in 95% of cases its a waste of time trying. Chemical or physical castration is the only answer i think.
