As I have stated total dog bites are such a tiny percentage of the dangers that we face everyday.
To single out A LIVING BREATHING CREATURE capable of loving and returning affection over the thousands of inanimate dangers and/or wildlife (that are protected by law) that we face in our everyday lives is ridiculous.
And I agree with you... but nobody has suggested a better way of reducing the amount of dog attacks.... apart from the soft option of education.

Yes I drive a car... but if I endanger the life or kill others with my car I can expect it to either be taken from me, have my license taken, imprisoned or all of the above.
What can irresponsible dog owners expect... a fine? Then we can re-educate them and go and live in a field of daisies and plait each others hair all day.
No I dont think banning pitbulls will fix the problem but atleast its something.

We dont need to introduce education.. we need restrictions because thats the only thing morons and cretins understand. Why cant dog (or any animal) ownership be like gun ownership where you have to prove you are responsible and own a dog that suits your purpose?

I'm not against dogs.. i'm against dickheads and until we re-introduce capital punishment and public stonings then we all have to suffer the stupidity.

If i lay hands on him before the dogs, he atleast has a 50 50 chance of surviving his encounter in bastard land.

Governments know about as much on the subjects they legislate on, as a rather slow 6 year old in a special school. We know how much they get their facts wrong about our lifestyle, why trust what they say about any other subject they profess to be expert enough on to impose laws.

Usually it comes down to one equation, too many idiots owning dogs who think they know what they are doing, too many idiots writing laws who think they know what they are doing

And lets not forget the many idiots who would rather blame a dog for biting little johnny, then little johnny for stabbing the dog in the eye with a pen(And yes ive seen that happen)

Thats fine... i'm all for defending your own territory. Only cretins and scumbags enter other peoples backyards uninvited so I say go for it. You could keep a lion for all I care... just keep it restrained.

One thing people haven't mentioned is stray dogs. How often do they attack? I'd say stray ones, that have been stray for a long time, would be considerabley dangerous. Animals do not think in a way as complex as human's do. The dog could grow up thinking "human's give food", and gets strayed for whatever reason, he could quite easily confuse "human's give food" with "humans ARE food" and herein lies the problem.

You know that Azaria Chamberlain thing, where the Dingo took the baby? I don't know much about that whole incident, but, in such a scenario, if a bunch of stupid tourists feed a wild animal, it will think, "humans give food". Then those tourists leave, and a new lot come who DON'T feed the wild animal, it will quite easily get mistaken and think "Humans ARE food", and then attack someone. 99.99% of the time in domestic or wild animal attacks, its the fault of stupid people, not the animal itself.

Alright we are all mostly agreed but like Mrs Casper said get off your bums and do something.
As an aside to the dangerous breed, look at what happened with tail docking,it was outlawed and all the state dog breeding associations fought like hell to have it stopped.

Unfortunately Hugh Wirth(Pres. RSPCA aust) and the RSPCA and some ill educated do gooders got their way.
Despite thousands of dog association ppl saying no because there is strong historical evidence to support tail docking in some breeds of dog for health and well being reasons.

That is the dog would break its tail from hitting objects when wagged excessively, which would then need it to be amputated.

In order for you to keep your breed of choice you all have to unite and become one voice not just of thousands....but hundereds of thousands, you have to inundate every local member, every councillor, every state/fed polly with your views and don't let them forget who put them where they are....your vote!!!!!!

Banning them wont solve the problem and is an action that is totally unnecessary based on media hype and political point scoring. Especially when there are other breeds that are more likely to bite a person and not being open to other solutions to try and find a solution to the problem.

The stray ones would be more dangerous, so "why are they stray" and why havent they been picked up isnt that the job of the RSPCA, oh thats right they are behind the ban aswell, maybe less work for them.Alot has been said of what to do,and alot of suggestions have been made,i started by using the link to Bob Carrs email and i shall continue from there. Now as for humans being food doubt that will ever happen, the Azaria thing is a totally different kettle of fish, for one did it REALLY happen and also the Dingo is and always will be a "WILD" animal as with the Wolves of the USA.
The thing that ****es me off the most is all the hard work has already been done for the government by the AVA (Australian vetrinary Association) over extensive studies that they have been doing for years on this country and others on what works and what doesnt with dog ownership and they found that banning breeds was not the answer. In Great Britain they tried the banning thing but found that the "SOFT APPROACH" (as some have put it) acctually worked, using education in schools,a licencing system and most important of all Following through with it all. That seems to be the hardest part "the follow through".It is against the law to walk a dog without a leash but how many people have actually been fined for this, probably somewhere close to 0% but the law has to start somewhere.
Some have mentioned its all good as long as the family are safe, but to a great amount of us that inclueds having a dog as part of that security, and they are also part of the FAMILY.Mothernature said about the cattle dog being bought into suburban life, hence the EDUCATION side again Cattle dogs for gods sake it is even in the name "Cattle" dont get much cattle in suburbia but we think they are cute and bring them into OUR lifestyle not THEIRS. I myself am guilty of this in bringing a border collie into a suburban back yard yet she is also a herding dog.As i said right at the beginning it is "US" that is doing this to the dogs of today so it is up to "US" to help put it right again.
