The American system is better as it is, they have much lower income tax and people pay more tax for consumption. Obviously the wealthy will spend more, and pay more tax, and the regular guys out there are paying less income tax than what we pay here anyway. Give a bit of an incentive to save, rather than spending all your money on highly taxed items.

I'm sure that Mickyb will know this,if the system is adjusted to stop this sort of rorting the country has to benefit. Hell who apart from a Packer can afford to drop a million at the tables and not think twice about it,if they were held accountable and taxed accordingingly then the country would be better off.

Regarding the flat rate tax system - it is flawed as it will result in high income earners paying less and low income earners paying more tax. As for this system supposedly abolishing other taxes, duties etc - that was what the GST was supposed to do, and now we pay GST on stamp duty - a tax on a tax! We also pay GST on fuel excise.
The tax cut I would have preferred to see from the budget would be the same as the cut from 17% to 15% and the 30% bracket starting from about $25000. Then the largely overlooked low to middle income earners would gain and the high income earners would also gain from this, but it wouldn't exclude lower income earners like this budget has done once again.

i was kiddn about the tax , i just paid a 90 k bill for a flip flop gov thing, we were advised to put some tax $ into saving aussie farms, the gov set it up and aproved it , now they want the money that we paid to the farmers to help them survive back, so i am paying it twice and gettn nuthing back. the farms didnt do well as they were raped of profits by management fees ect.

This government generates roughly 100 billion dollars from tax per year, almost ALL of this gets paid back to us in WELFARE ALONE!
Now you see why we are taxed the way we are. There is no easy solution to the tax system, not until the welfare system is sorted out at least. The American system isn't helping their economy in the slightest, nor is it promoting saving. Consumer's don't want to go without, nothing is out of reach with credit! That's the problem over there and we're seeing it here. |

HMMM does anyone remember this statement.....-THERE WILL BE NO GST WHILE IF AM PRIME MINISTER, he says before the election(gst johhny) . number crunchers said it would cost more to implement the gst than fix the old one , pollys told us it was a fairer ,and simpler tax system, accountants laughing all the way to the bank . australians per head owe more dollars than ever before , i liked the old system where welfare to people who needed it was more important than billion dollar surplus, one word comes to mind SHAFTED

jem ur wrong, the problem is there is too many cooks in the kitchen, think of how much money is collected just to pay their wages alone, then all their cars, phones, holidays, the familys holidays , the kids phones, and did i mention the cars...then there is the hugh retirment payouts for x gov workers then they get re employed in another section of parliment, the wroughting never stops in parliment house, even the BBQ cost a whopping 275,000 , who do u think pays for their lifestyle .

personally i'd rather pay the few dollars a week if it means they build better infrastructure into this country... good underground inner city train services, bit fat flat long roads? something with a limit of 130kmh...
i dunno... i can afford not to gain another few bob every pay.. so i'd rather see it go towards something to make the country better, rather than help pay for a sailboat. |

I didn't even mention anything about what you are talking about. I was simply highlighting the fact that WELFARE alone is absorbing almost all of the TAX that is paid in this country... of course there is alot more than even the welfare $$ that needs to be funded, that includes paying the polies wages. You think Polies are over paid? Compare them to CEO's and MD's of large Australian companies, makes the pollies look like they're on peanuts. You imply that WE pay for their lifestyle? yeah well maybe we also pay for every surfer on the gold coast who choses not to work... we all pay for our own lifestyle. |

since the intro of gst services have declined and taxes have gone up ,security in jobs are out the window, and i think most definatley pollys are over paid compared to majority of workforce.

i too would like to see better infrastructure from our tax dollars. these tax cuts are not even close to covering the cost of the GST..
how many people save the MAJORITY of their pay... not many, therefore your sepending the majority on... STUFF which is taxed at 10% this tax cut and every one before it wouldnt cover the fuel that it takes me to get to work. But then again any cut is a good cut

I saw an item on some Current Affairs program with a new mum saying that she thought it was unfair that the tax system was going to be changed and she was going to be 'punished' because she had decided to be a stay at home mum.
...she had decided... What The **** !!!!!!!!!!!! I would love to decide not to work and still somehow pay the bills. I believe that if you decide to do something, it has benefits and consequences. If you decide to have a baby, no dramas...I've got three kids of my own and love them more than anything. If you decide to stay at home, you will have more time with your kids (how great would that be?) but the consequence is that you lose money. If you decide to go out to work, good for you, it will mean more money. Of course, everyone knows what the consequences are. I would love to decide on things without expecting consequences. Yes, I am on a good wage. After years of gut busting manual labour in heavy industry, on a low / meduim income, I earned a promotion. Accepting the new position almost doubled my original gross wage, but the consequence was that it bumped me up into a higher tax rate. Did I bring home double the net wage? Your ****ing kidding, nowhere near it! My take home pay increased by about 25%. How ****ing unfair is that? I would love to decide who gets the tax dollars that I pay, and it definately wouldn't be any bitch wingeing about how unfair the new tax system will be to her. Panda / puts flame suit on

Mrs Casper is a stay at home mum too. She doesnt want to be but we DECIEDED to have 4 kids and one of them is disabled so she has no choice. Do I winge and bitch about it? No. Hell, I'd love for her to go back to work but its simply not practical so its a non issue. We make due, get by and live as best we can. I'll take this tax cut, say thank you and smile that its not an increase. This woman on ACC is no worse of so she can pull her bloody head in, suck it up and get on with life.....we all have.
