Not bloody happy, just had our street resealed. No letter or anything telling us it was going to happen. Worst thing is it was done about a half hour ago and I have to leave for work very soon. Called the council and they basically said "oh well your problem", all because I care about my car and don't want bloody tar all over it (car drove past a minute ago, stones going everywhere and you can hear the tyres on the sticky tar, was only doing 20 too).

So what is recommended for getting tar off? The car is going to have to wait a until at least tomorrow until I can do something about it and I just have to hope I don't cop any stones.

My dad has always told me to use kerosene, and it works a treat. Not sure on it's effects on paint though.

Try going to the auto shops like supercheap and autocrap as they have tar remover etc etc in there car car section and it works as we have used it to get the black crap off our paintwork

As long as you don't let it sit for a week in the blistering sun the tar spots should come off relatively easily with a quick wash. Give it a bath & get some wax onto it asap to protect it while the fresh asphault settles.

Wax is the secret when it comes to tar spots, bugs, dirt etc. One of our cars just came back from a 2000km trip & despite the fact that the bugs were sitting on there baking in the direct sun for a week at 35*C, 95% of the bugs came off with a simple wash.

Meguires Gold Class Bug and Tar Remover, will get anything of your car and not damage paint.
