Default Which car responds better to mods? XR6T or LS2

Armed with different cash amounts below, which car is better to mod?? Assume at each stage thats the maximum amount the person will spend..

1. $1500

XR6T, get a custom tune, injectors? 250rwkw? Mid to low 13s
LS2, custom Tune, OTR intake 240rwkw Mid to low 13s?

2. $3000

XR6T, above plus, valve springs, exhaust mod? 280rwkw, high 12s

LS2 above plus Full exhaust system, 255rwkw, low 13s?

3. $5000

XR6T, above plus, fuel pump, actuator, intercooler, 310rwkw, low 12s
LS2, above plus, cam. 300rwkw low 12s?

I reckon both are about even for responding to mods? what do we think bang for bucks? Am I right or is one better to mod than the other...

i might be wrong, but i would think that even with $5K to burn, the T would respond better than the wheezer.. but i could be way off

What does the Windsor V8 have to do with GenIV LS2 vs Barra240T?

Hmm could be biased but i too lean towards the T. Hell i got 260rwkw from a $195 tune let alone spending $1500 (no i haven't updated my signature yet ). I was told by my tuner that bigger injectors alone would get me close to 300rwkw which is straight into the 12's

haven't done much research beyond that so i can't really comment but if you want a contrast, my friend has so far put $7000 into his LS2 SS and his best time down the 1/4 mile is 12.8 (though admittedly traction is stopping him from seeing a 12.5 - the recommended time for his power so to speak). It would cost me far less than $7000 to get into those kinds of times. I don't know what he has done to his car but it sounds lumpy, loud and goes fast heh

You cant go past the Turbo! Best value bang for buck... for example ive seen and edited stock T (only mod was airfilter) go down Calder on factory rubber and did an high 12 pass!!!

can't vouch really for the LS2 but your first listing to me is a bit off the mark. 250rwkw can be achieved easily with a tune alone (in my case it was $200) which will yield a 13.2 or 13.1 1/4 mile time (as i have seen occur down at the drags with this kind of power in the BF series). If i spent $1500 on my car i would be closer to 300rwkw (bigger injectors alone (not sure on the $$) with a custom tune ($400 from BPT) would get me close to 300rwkw)

Haven't really delved into the rest of the mods yet so cant comment maybe someone else who has taken on the other mods has more of an idea?

I'm yet to see an LS2 pull 130mph terminal speed at the strip with bolt on mods, the Turbo wins hands down.

All these figures are so wrong for the LS2 that its not funny. We are talking about the same engine aren't we? The LS2 was fitted to the last VZ HSVs and the new VE HSVs. In VE guise they make 307kw at the wheel or around 230-250rwkw stock...

I've heard that the L98 responds better to mods than the LS2. There are a few L98 6.0L SSs that run high 12s with OTR, maffless tune, full exhaust.

I know of a manual SSV that has run a 12.0 @ 113.5 mph. Not bad for a car with only bolt on mods.

Mods: OTR, Xforce full exhaust, maffless tune, underdrives, tex, and 3.7 diff.

a VE SS makes 270kws at the flywheel. GTS and Clubby make 307kws... and we are only talking about the VE SS v XR6T arent we? so the engine in the VE SS is that an LS2?

The XR6 Turbo is ahead at the moment IMO. The L98 has not been around for that long and there is more R&D to be done. It was relatively simple and inexpensive to make big power from the LS1 and the L98 has shown signs of even greater potential.

VZSS = L76
VESS = L98
VZ (last)/VE HSV = LS2

Only the HSVs have ever had the LS2s in Australia.

My BAmk2 XR6T got 250kw at the treads with F6 CAI and custom tune only.....At the same time fuel economy was even better!!!! My first time ever at the drags I got a 13.4!! I was Happy. At the time I got my tune done there was an SSV VE with about 5k worth of mods(custom tune, CAI, full exhaust including headers) and got 248 rwkw.....I spent $1300 for my mods!!

Yep, but converting the LS2 to Turbo completley destroys the value for money, bang for bucks equation. Factory boost will never lose the bang for your dollar battle.

Turbo should respond better, and that's the main response there'll be on AFF.
