Default is my gearbox stuffed?

about 3 months ago, i was giving my car a bit and changed from 2nd to 3rd, the bolts on the shifter came loose as i found out when i went from 3rd to 4th. i drove it the rest of the way to work then home again in the morning.

wheni got home i pulled the centre console out and seen it was oonly the bolts that had come loose, that was a big relief tightened them up but then the gear changed felt very harsh, about a month later the bolts came loose again so i tightened it up with loctite and they seem to be holding now.

when i was driving my car last night i kept thinking god this is getting worst, the gearbox feels very stiff and clunks into gears sometimes. generally its not too bad to drive with. it still finds everygear and when in gear feels normal.

has anybody else had this problem, is it my gearbox, or my shifter?

try adjusting the clutch cable at the firewall up a bit more, when the clutch wears a bit and you push the clutch pedal in the pressure plate is not pressed in all the way...giving the "feeling" the shifts are harsh, this may also explain why it also clunks into gear. Also try changing the gear box oil.Check the area on the firewall where the cable goes through to make sure the firewall hasn't cracked. Another possibility is the clutch cable is starting to bind...not pulling/pushing through the the sleave easy. I had exactly the same problem with mine last month, ended up being cracked firewall and binding cable.A new clutch cable is only $70.00 so is worth changing anyway, the firewall is a different story, still an easy fix, just fiddly.
If your cruise control stops working, be careful, as the clutch pedal is prob starting to bend and move away from the sensor, again not an easy fix.

I'm with Rob, look at the simple and cheap fixes first, then work down the list.
