I saw a lot of 10mW green lasers for sale yesterday at Stanley Markets for $HK 198 ($AU25 or so). I tried one out and the green dot could be seen on an outdoor sunlit wall. This is scary.
Anyone caught lasing an aircraft on finals should be treated as a terrorist and locked up for ever, possibly longer, shot, stabbed, killed twice and then sent to bed without any TV.

A hand held ultrabright torch would be just as bad if not worse. I got zapped with the HIAL on 19 at BBN once during training. I could not see at all for about 10 seconds. VERY SCARY.

Or maybe the idiot could just stand on an overpass and zap cars and trucks to see how many he could cause to crash.

And for those who do not know what a cat R is:

I suspect they would argue sub(f) although its original intent was probably TASERs etc.

Thanks for the info. They would have to test the device before they even knew it got hot enough to cause bodily harm. Would they go that far?

It looks like it's just a 100W globed touch to me.

My mates has a Touch called a surefire I think it's called it's a HID touch, it's a bit bigger than a mini mag light and it easily out powers the big dolphin torches.

Yes that is true. I am just saying be careful and make sure it is not a problem.
Better to be sure than sorry.
Customs/AFP go bezerk for all soerts of reasons. e.g. Those plastic toy guns you can buy over the counter all over the world, commonly known as Airsoft, are concidered real guns in Australia and will get you into all sorts of poo if you try to import one.

Also the laser that caused al the grief at the airport was "just a laser pointer".

Have fun with the torch.......

I doubt this would be classed as a cat r weapon, a taser is a bit more intense, if someone hits you with one you’re on the ground. The torch produces heat, it doesn’t cause you to convulse preventing you from moving out of harms way. Besides that you can buy a flame torch at most hardware stores that have a 1300 deg c flame, these aren’t classed as weapons but can inflict injury instantly.

It was $400 by the time I got it here and the 15min battery life is an exageration but it is still worth it. I can create daylight with a switch, it is crazy. Its just a novelty thing but it reminds me of a helicopter search light.

I have a similar brand, for only 100 bucks packs a mean punch, only downside is the batteries are 10 bucks each, it takes two, and they last 3 weeks :(

Oh sweet, the site has blu-ray laser pointers.

When I get me a spare two grand I'll have to get one of them and a bunch of mirrors to create some insane show in my room!

And before somebody has a go at me, I do NOT want this to cause havoc with aircraft, just some cool indoor lighting effects. Unless the plane is inside my house, I don't think they would be affected by it.
