Default GranTurismo Idol

This is huge.

"New information has emerged about the GT Academy, the latest promotion by Sony to give Europe’s fastest GT drivers a shot at a real racing career. The first press release was vague on details, but today we have everything you need to know. The entire competition is broken down into three stages:

Stage 1 (June 2 - July 21): The first phase of GT Academy will take place online with a “giant” virtual Gran Turismo 5 Prologue tournament. The competition will run for seven weeks and to enter, players must register their PSN ID at gtacademy.eu. The next time they play GT5 Prologue online they will be able to race in the GT Academy Time Trial where they will compete to be the fastest around the Eiger Nordwand track in a Nissan Fairlady 350Z.

Stage 2 (after July 21): The fastest 20 drivers in each country will be invited to a national final to compete head to head on Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. The three fastest drivers from the final will win a seat at the Stage 3 competition.

Stage 3 (August 25): The fastest three drivers from each country travel to Silverstone to take part in the GT Academy - a real-life driving competition on the track itself. Competitors will not only have to prove their driving skills in a Nissan GT-R but will also be tested for their mental and physical skills in a series of tests. The two fastest drivers from Silverstone then have the chance to enter a four month training programme to earn their racing licenses and take part in a real life race in a fully race prepared Nissan 350Z at the 24 Hour endurance event in Dubai in January 2009."

Sounds awesome! But I reckon a lot of these computer nerds are in for a real shock if they manage to pull themselves away from the computer and drive in real life :

Wouldn't it come down to who hasthe best controller setup? Like someone who spends a grand on fully sick steering wheel/pedals with proper clutch and shifter?

Its a good idea though, they should more stuff like this. All this multiplayer craziness is inspiring me to get a PS3!

I don't think there is a huge difference in times between controllers and wheels. If the wheels are faster, most of it is probably just that the people that spend way too much time at it are usually the same ones that tend to place enough importance on it to buy a wheel. I think the fastest times are usually with a G25 and they can be got for about $300 on the net.

I'll have a go at it but i never really use Eiger so i'm not expecting much.

EDIT: I'm not saying people that spend money or time on these things are idiots. Anyone that knows me knows i'd never be able to get away with that

It makes a big difference on GT5, you can do much quicker times with the G25 wheel, But most people are running that wheel these days now that the price has droped so it's all fair. You wouldn't be able to make top 20 on a hand controller, if anyone does I'll be amazed and impressed

I dunno, I reckon some one with a wheel and lower level of experience than someone with a controller could at the least match their times, let alone if the more experienced person has the wheel, pedals etc I dont think the 'controller jockeys' would go to well when they jump in the real deal.

Off topic, but: I've got a momo logitech does anyone know if itd work on a PS3? Or would I have to buy the 'Momo Logitech PS3 edition'?

Yeah right. Like a Playstation is the same as punting a Nissan GT-R around Silverstone? :

Think major marketing ploy against their main rival.

Exactly.

I can do Mt Panorama on V8RD 3 in under two minutes, but I'm yet to hear from DJR about my co-driving spot for this year. Which is a shame.

I keep harassing him about it, but he seems far from interested!

^^ But Paul Morris won't stop calling....??

Seriously it doesn't matter how good you think you are...there will be some 14 year old asian kid who wears glasses, is deviod of personality and got driven to the competition by his overbearing parents in their Hyundai Sonata that will make a mockery of your time.....again and again and again.

you would want to hope tuning of the car isn't a part of the requirement to set a time. i am not a bad steerer but cant tune suspension to save my life compared to others on forza!
