Default Shell to phase out Shell V-Power Racing

Hi

I thought you’d be interested to know that from the end of July ‘08, Shell will start to phase out its Shell V-Power Racing fuel in Australia.

The Shell V-Power Racing phase out from Coles Express sites in QLD, VIC, NSW & ACT will take around 6 months and will be finished at the end of the year.

Be assured that Shell V-Power, a 98 octane fuel, which has been developed with Ferrari, will be Shell’s performance fuel and continues to be available at Coles Express sites in QLD, VIC, SA, NSW & ACT.

Changing needs of motorists and their vehicles has played a big part in Shell’s decision. Shell is currently increasing the availability of Shell Unleaded E10 at Shell branded sites to make it easier for motorists to access the ethanol blended fuel.

If anyone wants to find out more info on the phase out of Shell V-Power Racing you can visit www.shell.com.au or call 13 16 18 for tech or general enquiries.

Otherwise, shout out as I’m a Shell representative so I’m well placed to answer any queries.

Cheers Adam

Whats the difference between V power and V Power Racing? I dont think Ive ever seen it round here. That said though, the Shell here has currently got a problem with dirty LP Gas and has previously had diesel put into their fuel tanks by accident so Im not all that keen to start filling up there.

I used it a couple of times in the GT just out of curiosity as our local SHELL servo has 2 pumps for the 100 Racing.

Can't really say that it had a major effect on the car's performance for the money you spend on the stuff.........In fact , I kinda noticed on both occasions that it chewed through the stuff quicker than the 98.

I guess if the car was tuned to run on the stuff it may provide the major benefits that it had advertised.........but then again, the pumps were always unattended and I can imagine that the fuel would be sitting around for ages due to low demand............not sure how good that would be for the fuel or if the quality would deteriorate after a while anyways.........??

A friend tested all the top(service station) fuels in his high compression 427 race engine, on the dyno V power 100 made more power than the other brands.
The main difference is 100 octane, the rest are 98.

I never used it as the price over other premium unleaded brands was huge.

V power racing is ( was ) also an Ethanol Blended Fuel ( 5% off memory ).........V Power 98 is not and neither is the PULP 95.........

What a PITA that is. I run my XB on it and found it the best fuel out of all the High Octane stuff. What's the reason for discontinuing it?

20 cents above ULP mate, well not worth it without a tune to match.

Seems like it's not viable to keep producing it.

The Shell on the corner of Main Rd West and Kings Rd in St Albans still has 2 pumps with V Power Racing 100 (well it did last time I went past)
My No.2 flash tune is tuned to this, and can definately run more advance... No.1 tune is 98 oct, and there is a huge difference between the two.
Will be a shame if 100 disappears.

Not enough demand. Sucks to be those with an edgy tune mapped on 100RON though

I have been driving well out of my way to get this stuff recently (after the 98 shortage earlier in the year put me onto it) and found it well worth the effort.

Hope someone else steps up to fiill the niche, as my missus made the mistake of putting the useless 98 shell stuff in and it seems like its quality control is out the window now its back.

Off to caltexs one 98 pump per servo if your lucky till I can find something better then.

Demand is not the issue. I subcontract to a couple of petroleum service companies in Perth, and apparently Shell in Sydney is having issues with ethanol blend fuels. Can't go into exact details though.

I'd put it down to demand.

The reason why i don't use it is because i refuse to pay a 20c per litre premium for an ethanol blended fuel when they don't pay exise for the ethanol in the first place..

Same here, even with a 7 litre engine it is all I use(price be damned)the only time I use 98 is when Im too far from a shell that stocks it,only use the BP 98..

I wont buy any fuel with ethanol.

Uses more fuel, and is one of the biggest problem the biggest problem the world has ever seen.

Has better CO emissions, but every other type of emission else is worse.

Its also responsible for a 75% rise in the cost of basic foods in poor countries. Also encouraging more deforrestation to plant more crops for fuel.

We should be running out of emission making fuels, this just makes something that wont run out.

Hi b2tf

Shell V-Power is a 98 octane fuel designed to improve the performance of many modern engines. This is aided by Shell V-Power’s Friction Modification Technology (FMT) which is formulated to reduce friction between the cylinder and piston rings, a critical area of the engine where lubrication is difficult to achieve. FMT is designed to help the engine turn more freely, and so help transfer energy from the fuel to the wheels more efficiently.

Shell V-Power Racing has the same engine cleaning properties as Shell V-Power but is formulated with 5% ethanol and is a 100 octane fuel.

Cheers

Adam

Does anyone know how much a bottle of octane booster will boost the octane in a full tank of 98? I think that's the only other option for people that find 100RON fuel beneficial.
