Default holden cost more than ford

guy at works looking at buying xr8 ute or vy ss ute
every insurance quote was 200-500 more expensive per year
(he's also just under 21 and has had a 1 crash)
so quotes started at 2500-4500 per year ouch mine 600 = )

just proves holden get crashed more therefor holden drivers are worse than ford drives.

Doesn't really 'prove' anything.

The average claim could be higher, or they may be more expensive to repair.

I assume you have a XLS, not a "perfomance ute"...and the SS being a more a more popular car of sorts would mean that its prone to more theft.

Actually, there's probably a little bit of truth in xls3v's comment. I used to work in the insurance industry and Commodores were always more expensive to insure than Falcons because statistically they had a much higher accident rate and were more likely to be stolen.

I guess it all depends on the circumstances.

I just did a quote for a 2007 Holden/Ford ute on NRMA's website. $40000 with all my particulars and the SS was $1867, XR8 was $2022.

A lot of the premium cost is also based on where you live. If there are more claims for a particular type of car in your area then it will cost more. So in your mates case, he may live in a Holden claim-heavy area. If he lived somewhere else it may swing the other way.

For example, I own a Commodore and my girlfriend owns a Falcon. Hers was cheaper to insure than mine while we were in North Rocks, but we're now in St Clair and mine is cheaper. When we were in North Ryde they were almost identical

Well my VE is in for a new boot lid and rear bar because some d1ckhed backed his one tonner into it. He took off and left me with a $400 excess and a $400 special premium because it was a V8. There must be something special about V8 rear bars and lids. My annual premium is about $900 or something.

Incredibly a fully optioned G6ET is cheaper for me than a XR8 ute and only $100 more expensive than a 2004 Tezza. (AAMI)

Ahh the wonders of insurance.
