I find it amazing that a HUMMER is in 5th place and giving the BMW's and VW's a run for their money !!! I hope Robbie Gordon makes it too Bueno Aries. Its an incredible feat !! Go the Hummer. Be better if it was a FORD !!

Team Dakar USA Stage 9 Update: La Serena to Copiapo
TEAM DAKAR USA Posted by on Jan 12, 2009, 17:35 “Today was a great day for the Monster Energy Hummer as well as the Vanguard Hummer. Unfortunately, the No. 309 Hummer got stuck in a river bed. We lost about nine minutes trying to escape, but only ended up losing today’s stage by two minutes to [Carlos] Sainz. Had we not had this problem, I am confident that we would have won today’s stage, especially after some of the other leaders experienced some problems. I think Mark Miller broke a wheel and Giniel de Villiers got lost. If they continue to have problems, we have a good chance to win this thing,” exclaimed Robby Gordon, driver of the No. 309 Monster Energy Toyo Tires Hummer. “Eric also had a good day finishing 17th considering all the work that was done to the Vanguard Hummer last night after he rolled during yesterday’s special. The Team Dakar USA members did an excellent job prepping both Hummers for today’s special, and I can’t say enough about them,” continued Gordon. http://www.robbygordon.com/cms/publi...index_60.shtml

Now that would be some cool television. Strictly pay-per-view. Invest some reality TV dollars into something people WOULD watch! Surely Australia could finance a team of Wolf-Creek style maniacs, using Big Brother and Australian Idol money, not to mention the money wasted on pointless financial exercises such as that Australia film :

Try a 2wd buggy style space frame with mid mount 7.0 litre chev at about 600hp with a H2 style carbon fibre body. With 18 inches of wheel travel. Edit: Marty you just beat me..

Its as much a Hummer as it is a Territory. Custom built rally car with a silhouette shell.

....Man the Hummer is more Hummer than the VW's are Touareg's!!!!! Its criminal calling them that... and then the LANCER!!!! ITS NOT A FRICKEN LANCER!!!!!!!
But to be honest who cares, its an awesome race and the best part of the day (watching the updates)! To be serious its no worse than them calling Doorslammers a model :P tubular frame with a fibreglass shell.......... lol

My point was thats its a bit of a stretch saying its a Hummer when its a custom built racer that probably does not share a single part of a Hummer. Not that it matters at all, just saying. |

Stage 14 – Cordoba to Buenos Aires
David Schwarz finished 28th fastest on the final stage, giving him an overall final placing of 36th. Schwarz suffered a four-hour penalty, and could have finished as high as 20th without the time addition. Simon Pavey, competing in his seventh Dakar, was 42nd fastest over Stage 14, finishing 68th overall. This is an outstanding achievement given the trouble Pavey had to overcome during the race. Christophe Barriere-Varju put in a courageous performance over the first eight stages, with only a broken wrist forcing him out of the rally. In the cars, there was another outstanding result with Bruce Garland and Harry Suzuki finishing in 11th place overall. The Aussies recorded the 9th fastest time on the last stage, and given the far smaller budget than the factory teams above them, this is a massive accomplishment. Great result for Aussies!!!Lets hope they get sponsorship for DAKAR 2010
