How nice is the red XW with black vinyl roof? That would've fetched 150k 2 years ago, about 85k today.

So if, in 1990 you bought a XY GTHO instead of a new EA lets see just how clever that would have been.
Do you drive it or stick it in the shed, after all you need a car to get about. If you drive it for only 200km a week then now it would have about 250,000km or more on it. You also have to register, maintain and insure it for 20 years. If you did not drive it then it is a VERY expensive work of art that will keep you broke for many years and then if you ever want your money back you have to SELL it. At $14000 you could buy about a quarter to a third of a house in 1990. I paid $61500 for a new house in 1989 in Hervey Bay. That made me a huge profit and saved me on rent. Wages were a lot lower then than now and interest rates on car loans were over 20% and only available up to 4 or 5 years in 1990 so unless you were very rich you had no chance, i.e. a tradesman on full wages could not afford to pay off a $14,000 car in the same way most people cannot afford to pay off a W427 or Porsche. Meanwhile you are paying rent or paying off a house, going to have kids in the future some time. Looking at it today. How many of you can afford to buy a BA GT/T3/BA2 F6 that is in good nick for a mere $30/40k and just stick it in the shed and NEVER drive it at all so that 20 years from now it MIGHT be worth be worth some money? Not many I suspect....... |
