Default AU220, 13.69 please...

I get down the Motorplex at least half a dozen times a year, and in my cars current state of tune Ive gathered some 20 odd 13.7 time slips.

Now the best before last night was 13.717 @101.35 which was almost a year ago to the day, so im thinking would a 13.69 or better every happen with this cars current mods ?

Anyway im not really what you would call a religious man but i did ask the Big Kahuna up stairs if he could give me a 13.699 time slip for the H vs ford meeting last nite.

THE RESULT.
13.705 @ 100.78mph was my best for the nite.... Is that suppose to be funny.

schnoods, There were two blueprint 220's there last night, mine has azzuros if that helps. The other one was an auto with no wing on the boot, we had three or four runs together after burnouts i think he ran a pb 14.1 which i thought was a top effort.

Gambit, Thanks for the compliment, as far as mods go the car has a home modified airbox, 76MM C&L air meter, full zoost with high flow cats and Xtreme ford done the flash tune about a year ago.

03XR6T, I didn't spot any TS50'S there last night. Mine is a series 3 XR8.

Gambit, Thanks, best 60ft was 2.131. Maybe some new tyres will get me a 2.0something next time.

Hey Whoosha, yes the blue ones are faster than red one's, but i must say John (Congo XR8) sent me a pm on Tuesday with the news that he pulled a 13.63 on Monday night so that was plenty motivation to get off the couch and down the plex last night !!

Cheers, Craig.

Awesome times you guys are pulling from these 220's!!
I'd be stoked if i could get the missus AU Ghia with the 220kw engine into the 13's. But the auto will be the problem, nothing a 2500rpm stall and some 3.9 gears cant fix :evilsasmo

Hope all goes well for you tomorrow night and you bring home some more 13.6sec time slips, or even a 13.5 ;)

That's a bloody fast time, well done. What kind of rwkw does it have? And what's the "most" you could get with the 220, roughly speaking.

That's weird, you've only got 460rwkw.

Havent always had that much... And this engine isnt up to that yet.. :togo:

There are a couple things you could possibly still do to the AU before it had to be opened. But starts to be bad value for money in a sense.

Tune it for race fuel and put some slicks on it. Maybe a short shifter.
If they make them, a Aluminum Flywheel and clutch combo.(Had 1 on the BA)
Allows the engine to rev more freely with less weight hanging off the back of it.

Other than that with out opening the engine it looks like the basics have been taken care of. CAI, Zorst and tune.

At a guess you would currently have about 200kw at the wheels

Cheers Kev.
A 200rwkw V8 with a well balanced chassis is an attractive proposition for a daily, and knowing the old 5L is good for a high 13 makes it a very good (if not better) alternative to the B-series XR6t/8.

Thanks Kev, will agree 3 clutches is a lot better than 3 motors.
Apparently the air is good over this way but unfortunately we often have a head wind at around 5 to 12 knots and never get a tail wind.
the night i got my best time density altitude was 22.8m / 74.8ft air temp 18.3c with 45% humidity.

Your pretty close on the rwkw guesstimate, the last tune was 212rwkw. and yes i do have a aluminium flywheel which has definitely made it more responsive so much so that on a crisp night its very hard to drive smooth.

Hey Falc'man, Thanks for the compliment, i don't think you can get any more out of the 220 with out opening it up.

Regards, Craig.

Well done on the time mate!

Would a different set of diff gears help?

Well, my XR6T did 13.7 completely stock so in performance terms probably not a better alternative (considering a lazy generic tune will crank the XR6T up a whole other notch) but in terms of that V8 character and every day driving experience i would have to agree with you

Cheers. Nearly went some 3.9 diff gears around christmas but backed out, didn't want to sacrifice hwy cruising.
I put some new street rubber and went down for the last whoop *** of the season and tried to improve my sixty foot times and did manage to get a 2.083 which should have got me a low 13.6 but i must have been a little slow on my gear changes and ended up with 13.69.... Roll on September !!

Yep those turbos are easy mods, a mate of mine spent about fourteen hundred bucks on a flash tuner and custom tune and pulled 260rwkw in his BFXR6T , hasn't had it down the drags but would probably pull a low 13 or high 12 if you had to guess.... now that's bang for buck.

Very close to being the quickest 5L on this list. You should add your time to it.

Inducted_Breeze, yes I was thinking about the V8 character when I said that, and also the AU's balance.

Yes almost the quickest 5L, Dave (Congo XR8) ran a 13.63 the week before i ran my best time.

Also just added my time to the list.

Cheers, Craig.
