Default 2007 Focus Speaker Options

I'm after some advice on after market car audio solutions for the focus - particularly speakers. The normal place for putting a decent pair of 6x8 speakers on the front doors seem to be where the plastic 'magazine holders' (my term) are..

The rear parcel shelf seems to be out for decent rears..

What do other people do with their focus?

First of all, I'd steer clear of 6x9's - they just don't produce the sound quality of a good set of splits (plenty online about this), especially in the front - they're just good for bass. Some good quality $300+ 6.5inch splits up front would be a good start, and a 10inch sub + amp to take care of the low stuff.

The 6.5 inch drivers replace the existing ones in the front doors (need to make custom pods as stock speakers are mounted on a plastic pod), and the tweeters slot in where the existing ones sit (also in door). Pretty sure there's enough room in the doors for the crossovers as well.

FYI - Mk2 Foci have 6.5 inch/16cm speakers front and rear.

Try your local car audio place/JB HIFI/etc. Listen to plenty of speakers and find the ones that sound good to YOU (not the sales person) that are obviously within your budget. If you're handy with a soldering iron, you should be able to find your favourites online for a good price. Also budget in for sound deadener - makes a big difference. Finally - good to keep in mind that when you're listening to speakers they will sound different in your car compared to how they sound mounted to the demo board in a shop.

I totally agree with staying away from 6x9s, they got nothing on splits.
I upgraded the fronts to 6.5 splits. should be just simple change over really.
im a big fan of alpine, so i got type R. they running off amp under pass. seat and subby in box in boot...

Without changing the head unit is there a great improvement with a change of speakers? No complaints about the stock speakers, but y'know...

I do miss my Kicker 6x9s in my old car, they were great!
