Oh yeah, forgot about those. Only problem is, they are getting a bit old tech now, really could do with a proper update. Good options from Ford USA, who would have thought?

I agree it doesn't make sense to get better mpg city than highway, but does better than the Camry Hybrid..Toyota have been quiet about that here !

i saw a fusion on the western ring rd on thursday night had a big evaluation sticker on the rear bar and was still l/h drive didnt look to bad

Both cars, the Escape and Fusion, are in development under the new 'One Ford' plan. The Escape will be fused with the Kuga, a Focus based SUV, and the Fusion and Mondeo are to become one. No point bringing them here when both are only a few years away from replacement.

I'm not a Hybrid fan, and even these two cars don't excite me the least. You can achieve green cred with other fuels, such as LPG and Diesel, or use modern tech similar to ECOBoost or the VW TSI idea, small engines with turbos that deliver great performance and amazing fuel consumption. This tech is not only cheaper, but does away with expensive, heavy batteries.

IIRC most hybrids barely use the electric motor on the highway. They make alot more sense in stop-start driving than cruising around.

Short answer,
Fusion Hybrid uses less fuel than the US Camry Hybrid
TDCI Mondeo uses less fuel than the the Camry Hybrid


The Mondeo's diesel engine does not comply to tough US NOX emission rules for diesel engines
and would need expensive Urea injection after treatment to comply. Europe is getting worried
about diesels as Euro 6 approaches and the cost of NOX equipment remains much higher on
diesel engines than going to petrol direct Injection turbo engines...

It would be interesting to see Mondeo TDCI Vs Mondeo Ecoboost Vs Fusion Hybrid Vs Hybrid Camry...
I know we will never truly be available for compare all cars directly but
I'm hoping there will be enough data to give meaningful inferences...

quite a few reviews on how these cars are getting over 1000miles to a tank of gas.
I read one that drove a city loop, in peak hour and still made the 1000mile range.

Very true. Hybrids just do not sell. Toyota must already be worried about sales of the Camry Hybrid if last months figures are the best they can get with all the marketing they have done for it.

Maybe the majority of the buying public aren't as dumb as I thought, cause not many people seem to be getting sucked into the whole buy a hybrid and the planet will love you crap.
