Gone too soon, Rest In Peace Brother.
For those who don't know Detective Senior Constable Damian Leeding was shot in the face during an armed robbery (70th this year) on the Gold Coast on Sunday. The family turned off his life support this afternoon. I have been where you fear to go... I have seen what you fear to see... I have done what you fear to do... All these things I’ve done for you. I am the one you lean upon... The one you cast your scorn upon... The one you bring your troubles to... All these people I’ve been for you. The one you ask to stand apart... The one you feel should have no heart... The one you call the man in blue... But I am human just like you. And through the years I’ve come to see... That I’m not what you ask of me... So take this badge and take this gun... Will you take it? Will anyone? And when you watch a person die... And hear a battered baby cry... Then so you think that you can be All those things you ask of me...? |

It wasn't just a good copper who paid the ultimate price for doing what he believed, but a family has lost their dad, husband, and son.
RIP Damo.

From an ex NSW Copper, my condolences to his family, friends and work collegues. It is a terrible tragedy that happens because men and woman are prepared to do what is right and uphold the law to protect everyday people.
I wrote a poem last night as i was thinking of my friend David Carty who was also killed in the line of duty in NSW. I hope it might be given to Damien Leeding's family..... Called You Home I have walked th road you have travelled, I have seen the things you have seen, I have stood beside you through the darkest times, I have watched you lose your dreams I have held your hand when it was too much, I have wiped the tears from your eyes. I have held you close, when the pain was such, that you couldnt go on if you tried. I have kept you warm in the coldest night, I have helped you stay so strong. But now its time, to have your rest On this road that you are on. I will stay by your wife, and childrens side, I will comfort them in this time. I will help them see, i have called you home.... To a place where you are mine. So rest your head, and close your eyes, You have earnt this place with me. You can always smile and know that soon, You will be with your family. © Craig Robinson 2011
