Now this is dedication.
Crescent Suzuki World Superbike rider John Hopkins has chosen to amputate the second finger on his right hand rather than miss the beginning of the 201 season. Hopkins broke his finger in a crash at Brno in 2011, where he was lining up as a wildcard rider for Rizla Suzuki in MotoGP. After months of rehabilitation Hopper made the brave decision to cut off the finger in order to suit up for the beginning of the 2012 Superbike season - Crescent Suzuki's first in WSBK. Tweets from Hopkins's twitter account (@JHopper21) portrayed the riders good spirits, with the American joking with fans, " Finally relaxing watching #SXonSpeed after changing bandages & seeing my freshly amputated finger for the 1st time! #LostAppetite". Finger injuries are common among motorcycle riders. Spanish MotoGP star Jorge Lorenzo lost his left index finger at Phillip Island in October. http://www.foxsports.com.au/motor-sp...-1226245373499 |

There's a surprising amount of riders in the upper levels who've been at it for many years who are missing, usually, one of thier little fingers. It's pretty simple...when you low-side, especially with narrow clip ons, if you are unlucky your hand on the bar will get tucked under as the bike slides along the road surface, squishing your little finger at the outer end of the bar.

You do what it takes to win when you get to the upper levels of competitive motorsport.
After all it's only a finger. A finger or a multi million dollar shot at the elite. I know which path I'd take. .
