Which Fords are built in Germany?

I was talking to a German quality engineer the other day and he described all the quality/reliability problems in recent years with VW and Mercedes and he said that the most reliable German-made cars nowadays are from Ford!

So I am wondering, of the Fords sold in Australia, which are from Germany? Mondeo, Focus, Fiesta? And will it continue that way?

Fiesta, not sure if thats where we get them fromm though

Fiesta is now made in Thailand for Oz, Focus is now sourcing from Thailand also.

Mondeo is from Genk in Belgium.

Focus ST will be from Germany that's all.

Fiesta was in Belgium im pretty sure, along with Mondeo.

Focus ST/RS was/is German.

Some model Focus were also German built aswell, but i think it went to Thailand Mid LV (XR5 excluded)

Nope Fiesta was from Cologne in Germany - now Thailand.

Focus was from Saalouis in Germany - now Thailand ( mid August here ) - Focus ST will still come from the German plant.

Mondeo is still Belgium.

Ahh ok thanks for that, i knew it was Belgium or Germany for the Fiesta.

re Focus, didnt it go to Thailand last year, but LW was made in Germany for a little while but recently went to Thailand aswell?

I reckon the current Fez shows its Thailand roots too.

LR focus came from Germany, LS-LV came from South Africa except XR5/RS.

Fiesta Metal will come from Germany.

It was the Fiesta that went to Thailand last year, or the year before, it was German before that.

Focus production is switching from Germany to Thailand next month, bar ST.

Prior to the current Focus they were made in South Africa, I think originally the first Focus was German before they went to SA.

Not looking good for Australia. This engineer was underwhelmed with South African and Thai product quality.

As I understood, Germany was Ford's engineering centre for any new compact, small or mid sized FWD/AWD Ford, bar the American variants before One Ford starting taking effect. Now that they are global... those models are German engineered then moved on to cheaper factories for manufacture.

Makes sense really. Just absorb/steal that talent from the German marques and then make something as good if not better.

European union is talking about dropping tariffs on import vehicles to increase competition and lower prices to consumers.
Once they open the door to Eastern Europe, Korea and Thailand, it will be game over for Europe's large car plants.

That is a greedy Australian government kind of view. They're only thinking about the taxes pouring in from people buying cars, registering them, and buying fuel... rather than looking to protect jobs.

I hope they decide against it.

The Mercedes C Class sedan & wagon are made in South Africa. And whilst not perfect, are very good. So it is possible.

Do you mean large car plants, or 'large' car plants? Some of those plants must be pretty damn big if PSA Peugeot Citroen are going to chop 8000 personnel from two plants.
