Default EA MPI engine into a EA CPI car won't fire help

Hey guys I own a EA falcon and on the weekend I pulled out the old CPI engine and put a EB XR6 in it. It turns over but won't fire. I think all the hoses and wires are in the correct place but I'm not sure plus ive got a few hoses left over.

Can someone that has done this conversion or another MPI engine in a CPI car please help

one question I have for you

what dizzy did you use did you use the one of the CPI or the one of the MPI as they are different internally

there is a metal plate/disc in them that has from memory one has 3 tabs on it the other has one tab (cfi)

it was the problem i had when i attempted my changeover years ago

Did you change the ECU? I think the wiring is different somewhere too...

You need to tell us whether you're missing spark or fuel.

You need to change the ECU, fuel pump and distributor along with the more obvious stuff.

There may also be a single pink wire floating around near the ISC which you need to tap on to the tacho signal wire off the main loom if you haven't already.

Did you use the inlet manifold loom from whatever XR motor you put in the car?

Was the ECU a Smartlock one? If it's a Smartlock ECU then there's your first problem.

What year and series is your EA? And what year/series is the EB XR loom?

Yer I used the inlet manifold that came withe the XR. The ECU was out of another 5 speed EA. The EA is an 89 and the EB XR6 is a 93

It's a normal ECU. Could it be a wiring problem?

Smart lock would not allow the engine to turn over though.

Do you have spark at the coil?

I dunno I havnt checked. I pulled one of the spark plugs out, put the plug lead on it, sat on top of the engine to see it spark and turned the engine over and I couldn't see any spark

Change the loom in the manifold to an EA one just to be safe, and try get one around the same year and series as your EA. I think there could be differences in the EB one that may be causing your dramas. If you don't have wiring knowledge this would be the easiest way to go.

I am placing bets on the coil -ve wiring being out of whack somewhere. This is usually the issue.

Ok then. What's the option if I have wiring knowledge?

Well you can test if you have spark at the coil by arcing the lead between the coil and dizzy cap to the block while turning over the engine.

*Note - doing that can be dangerous! Electricity hurts. Don't do if you're not comfortable.
