If you're interested in a TRD Aurion, you should maybe consider taking a look at a TMR 380. 10kW less power, but 42Nm more - TRD = 240kW/400Nm, TMR380 = 230kW/442Nm. The Mitsubishi has a much better chassis too. I can see why you're keen on the TRD though, I just had a quick look on Carsales and there's 2007 models there going for like $25k with 50k on the clock. Crazy as hell.

I seriously considered an Aurion SX6 when I was buying a new car. We had one for a week in NZ and I thought it was great. But the missus didn't like it and compared to the XR50, the XR50 was better value and bigger.

I haven't driven an Aurion, but I test drove a Hybrid Camry recently, around the same time as when I had test driven a Falcon EcoBoost. The two were miles apart. While the Camry had better fuel economy and was arguably quieter and more refined ... it just had no character. The steering had virtually no "feel" to it. The Camry has no soul, no character. It's designed for people who want nothing more than an A to B car.

For those who have driven both Camry and Aurion, is the Aurion any improvement in terms of driving enjoyment?

The EcoBoost Falcon handles, rides, drives and steers better than the Camry, by a long shot.

Rented a camry, and it torqued steered if you gave it more than half throttle off the lights. Had some decent punch in the high revs for a 2.4 and had no problem sustaining high speeds and maintaining composure on the back roads. Interior ergonomics were atrocious (it seems every toyota vehicle has the dash angled towards the passenger rather than the driver) and the seats were crap, though.

i dont find the new aurion enjoyable at all, it does have a lot of power though!
Well into the 6's to 100 I'd say.

One of the main problems is the tyres fitted. They are usually "eco tyres" and dont like to turn, accellerate or brake!! Hopeless!!

Does anybody else find the styling of the new Aurion completely off-putting? The standard models aren't too bad, but the Sportivos just look silly - what is going on with the lower grille treatment around the fog lights?

They are hiddeous, but you haven't even shown the worst part. They are puke inducing from the back.

They've gone backwards with the new styling. The older styling with the more round edges was far better than this squaring off styling they've got going on now.

But on the other hand, not all Aurion's are ugly...

The reason the Sportivo isn't at pretty as where the previous generation was styled/designed by Australians this edition wasn't.

Not ugly, just extremely boring. So the choice is either ugly or boring. Not much of a selection.

Much prefer the previous model cause at least the Sportivo looked ok.

The first bit is about it in a nut shell
Most new cars unless the sporty version really arent much more than glorified fridges, to keep to the topic
The brother in law had the early 90 s corolla CSX, the freak of a thing would nail many many larger cars , the thing pulled 120 outta 2nd and still had more go, absolute freak
Back in the old days when the minister and myself bought new cars every 18 months or so, they were nothin but toyotas, and V6s
They could handle the Ks,good on fuel, and better resale even with high Ks than holden or ford
So bang for buck, reliabilty, resale, they were always the winner
Fast forward to nowadays and we look for the overall package,$$$ for $$$ and dont pay extra for the badge, theres too many options in the 2nd hand market that offer good value for money the badge premium price doesnt need to be paid anymore
Many many manufacturers had great reputations and toyota was one to be as reliable as a pair of old boots, but its hardly the case as with many new cars nowadays

I think the same guy who styled the previous Aurion did the BA XR models before he left Ford. Nick Hogios?

The old Aurion SX6 was waaaay better looking. I definitely wouldn't have been interested in the current model.

Less drivetrain losses. Would they use basic transaxle in that FWD application?
